Comments about West Marine VHF460 Floating Class D GPS/Handheld VHF Radio:

Not a cheap radio but you may not want to ever use the belt clip ... Unless you want your radio to end up in the water! Radio will come right off clip 9/10 times and very easily!
WM should really come up with a fix as this should be a deal breaker for me!

A very good unit. Not all functions are apparent (takes some education), but it's got a lot of functionality and very good performance.

Comments about West Marine VHF460 Floating Class D GPS/Handheld VHF Radio:

I have just purchased the 460 to wear on my inflatable life preserver harness. A portable radio is required equipment for racing in the SF Bay races.

The instruction guide has small print and benefits from printing from the pdf for easier reading.

The guide says that the accessory battery pack can use NiMH batteries which implies that the battery pack can be recharged on the base charger. An email to WM tech services and their call to Uniden support reveals that alakaline batteries are supposed to be used in the battery pack accessory and therefore no recharging on the base unit. Uniden needs to modify the system to allow recharging the accessory battery pack on the provided charger.

I also found that the "belt clip" is just that for belts as it does NOT fit my 1 7/8" wide harness strap - therefor attaching the radio to the harness is impossible. Further, when experimenting with the "belt clip" it tends to release very easily - even after you firmly clip in place - this makes it easy to lose/drop.

Otherwise, at this price point the radio performs as you would expect, GPS locations is fast enough, use of the keys in the menu is fine etc.

Comments about West Marine VHF460 Floating Class D GPS/Handheld VHF Radio:

This is a good handheld VHF radio. I got the expected range and great audio (Remember: It's a handheld - If you need better range install a fixed mount). The memory Scan is nice. The DSC is a must in our harbor. Great accessories for the value. The radio is made by Uniden. Overall good radio with must have features. I am pleased.
