    • Manual Bilge Pump

Comments about Whale Pumps Gusher 10 Pump:

This is a well made, long lasting bilge pump. It was designed to be installed in a couple of different configurations attesting to its well thought out design. I use mine to pump fresh water out of the bilge. If you have salt water in your bilge, something is wrong and that is not the fault of this pump! Yes, salt corrodes anything, but I have had this pump on my sailboat for 6 years and have serviced it with a new diaphragm and valve flappers twice. The service kit costs $47 or so and I think that's reasonable for a marine part. The kit is readily available as well. Whale is a good brand.

Comments about Whale Pumps Gusher 10 Pump:

This is a great design on the board, but materials selection is horrible. Cast aluminum in saltwater - what were they thinking. As an engineer, I am astounded that this pump is OEM on production boats.

Comments about Whale Pumps Gusher 10 Pump:

This came with my boat. Over the past twenty years I have replaced it at least two or three times. Expensive and impossible to rebuild as the internal parts also corrode. Just came back from trying to bring it back to life last night - this one is only two years old.

Comments about Whale Pumps Gusher 10 Pump:

This is a high maintenance, non-performing pump that is useless in salt water. I've spent more time repairing it than actually pumping with it. It blocks too easily from small bits of dirt in the bilge. It corrodes terribly and loses all suction. I totally rebuilt this pump down to bare metal, primed and repainted, replaced all parts and it STILL failed after less than an hour of use.

Comments about Whale Pumps Gusher 10 Pump:

Felt lucky to find as direct substitue for old ,failed Mk II version installed in my boat but unit stopped working after one season. Rubber outlet flapper was binding and sticking open and its ferrous seating surface was badly corroded.Tne manufacturer was not responsive to my questions about the pump.

This worked great initially but after a few years the Al corroded underneath the epoxy. When that happened the valves wouldn't seat and it stopped working. There was white aluminum oxide all over it.
