A quality sine wave inverter

Cons

  • Needs Larger Battery Bank

Best Uses

  • Indoor
  • Small Boats

Comments about PROwatt SW Inverters:

I bought the 2000 W version and it is a quality inverter at a very decent price. The construction is sturdy and feels solid. There are 3 fans, two at the back, and one at the front. They almost never come on at all for my kind of usage. At first, I even thought may be they were broken. Only if you run some 1000+ W load continuously for like 15 minutes to half an hour will they start to come on, and they are very quiet even when running.

The alarm will start to sound when the input voltage drops below 11 V and gradually gets louder but never too loud as to be annoying like some other inverters. The neutral is tied to the ground like a regular mains panel, sign of a higher end design.

In order to function properly on a more demanding load such as microwave, this inverter requires a decent size battery bank, probably around 150 Ah minimum I would say. Otherwise, it will shut down. I have checked the sine wave output with an oscilloscope and it looked pretty decent even under load. It has not caused any problem with my more sensitive equipment such as TV or audio-visual system.

A minor complaint is that it has a bit of new electronics burning smell. It is not very strong and only noticeable if you are close to it. Hopefully it would dissipate with the passage of time.

Overall, this is solid performer suitable for the average consumer with an affordable price tag. Just make sure you have a good size battery bank. Highly recommend it.

        Comments about PROwatt SW Inverters:

This inverter needs a lot of power to run anything. Has a low voltage alarm of 11.5 volts. For a 12 v system that does not leave a lot of room before shut off at 11.0 volts. Needs to be connected to a vehicles charging system and at least 13 volts to start any large load. 2000w model could not start a 5 amp refrigerator load without a lot of help. also has overload shut off that kicks in on most start up loads. very annoying.

          Comments about PROwatt SW Inverters:

I replaced a stepped inverter with this True Sine Wave inverter because there are so many tools, accessories and appliances that require this power. I burned out a computerized blender using a stepped A/C and did not want to waste money on physical tests of other tools. In my evaluations of inverters this was the only one in the mid range (1500-2000 Watt) with a proportional cost associated with it. I was looking for a wattage output that was 50% of my engine's alternator output. The Xantrex Technology 2000 watt true SW inverter was a great match. And the best part is, it is working perfect.
