Catches & Latches
Find the boat latches and catches you need at West Marine.
Smooth and secure boat latches ensure that what need to be closed stays closed, what needs to be locked stays locked, and what need to stay open stays open--key things whether you’re out on the water or in the slip.
If you are shopping for replacement latches, be sure to measure your old hardware before ordering. If you are adding latches or catches to your boat for additional ease of use, consider what elements the latch will be exposed to, whether you need it to lock or not, and how much force the latch must hold back or lift. Read on for details on the various boat latches and catches available from West Marine.
Latches for heavy use.
To secure exterior hatches, like the engine hatch, lockers or doors, look for stainless steel marine latches that allow a lock when needed for security. Stainless steel will withstand wind, salt and water without corrosion and is durable for use on heavy lids and doors. Many hatch latches are available in stainless steel, from ring-pulls that lay flush and utilize an internal cam to keep movements smooth to heavy-duty hasps with a sturdy plate which goes over an eye, allowing a padlock to be secured.
Latches for light and medium use.
When looking to secure lighter parts of the vessel, such as windows, interior doors and cabin doors, you still want durable materials like stainless steel or chrome plated zinc, but you likely need a smaller latch and may not require the ability to lock it. Choose from smaller barrel bolt designs, door hooks and latches, window latches, rim latches which install directly on the door, and Mortise latch and locksets with doorknobs set in the door. When it comes to selecting a window latch, look for one made of durable materials such as stainless steel, but coated with rubber for safety.
Secure swinging doors on the water.
Catches install with a latch on the door that snaps into a receptacle on the doorframe to keep doors from slamming when heeling or on rough water. They are easy to install and keep all your things neatly stored even during a wild day on the water.
