FORTRESS Fortress Aluminum Anchors

Lightweight, fast-setting and reliable, this anchor gets fan mail

Made of high-tensile aluminum-magnesium alloy with no welds to weaken the metal, Fortress anchors are not only lightweight, they are strong! And they are versatile as well, with two adjustable shank angles: 32° for sand and 45° for soft mud. They are easy to handle and their light weight helps to minimize weight at the bow. Precisely machined, anodized, interlocking components are corrosion resistant, nonmagnetic and as easy to put together as they are to take apart. For compact storage, we suggest one of the bags offered separately on this page. Made in USA. Type approved by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). Models FX-37 to FX-125 are certified as Super High Holding Power (SHHP) anchors.

  • Style: Pivoting aluminum fluke
  • Material: High tensile aluminum-magnesium alloy
  • Application: Sand and mud
  • Pros: Extra high holding power. Two shank angles hard sand and soft mud. Lightweight and strong. Disassembles for storage.
  • Cons: Less effective on rocky or grassy bottoms. Light weight makes small sizes “sail” under water if boat is drifting backwards quickly.
  • Warranty: Lifetime parts replacement

My back, shoulders and arms thank Fortress for their Aluminum Achors. I traded my 50Lb steel anchor for the Fortress and I could not believe the difference in not only weight...but the holding power. It also seems to dig in faster in the lake bottom. We don't use a windlass...so it's my back...or if we have quests...I can sometimes get a volunteer to hoist!

I replaced a 35 pound Delta anchor with an FX16 Fortress. I got the Delta many years ago when I was young and spry; now at 68 I'm not so young although I'm still rather spry. So far I'm very disappointed and glad the ole Delta is still in my garage. My 30 foot sailboat sits right smack dab in the middle of the boat length specified by Fortress for this anchor. It is affixed to 30' of chain. On my first set the wind switched direction and shifted 180 degrees and the anchor did not hold in about 15 knots of wind. So I moved to a new location and tried another set and could not get it to set. I know the ground was rocky in the first location but I hooked it with about 6:1 scope and even put on a mask, fins, and snorkel to check the set. Not sure what the bottom was on my second attempt but suspect it may have been rocky also. In thirty years of using the ole Delta I never, not once, had it drag and so far I'm 0 for 2 with the Fortress.

I use a Fortress for my 24' Hurricane and have been completely happy with the performance. It really does also grab hold every time. I use another Fortress as a back-up for Grady White - I feel very comfortable knowing that I have a Fortress backing me up in case I need to deploy two anchors.

I used a 7 lbs. Fortress for 7 years on our Catalina 30 sailboat. It replaced a 20 lbs. Danforth steel anchor. I had a 25 lbs. plow type anchor as a back-up. The Fortress was used in sand and mud. This was on Lake Erie. It never failed to hold, but we never anchored on a rocky bottom. My wife and I the light weight the light weight. We did not have a windlass.

I have used a Fortress anchor on a wide variety of boats here in the Florida Keys over the past 20 years or so and I simply would not be without one. They handle easy, don't rust, and have incredible holding power for their size. If you ever damage an anchor part, they replace it for free, no questions asked.

Simply follow their chain length and size recommendations and you will be a happy Fortress owner for life.

I have used almost every type of anchor and owned more than 10 boats in my lifetime. I got a FX11 with my 24 Pursuit I recently purchased and was eager to see how well it works. Fortress ads are really misleading and false. I tried it out on my 13 Whaler ( its rated for 28-32 foot boat) and it is simply junk. Its so light it skips over the bottom even though I had 4 feet of chain on it. I tried it on sandy, muddy, and hard ground. I would not use it for a spare its that bad. Also the construction is very weak and shabby. Save money and buy a good ole steel anchor.
