Impellers
Boat Impellers for Every Application on Your Boat
Most boats have one or more flexible impeller pumps that require periodic replacement. Examples include engine belt-driven water pumps, engine raw water pumps, outboard motor water pumps, ballast pumps for wake board boats and many other applications. Because impellers wear out over time, they must be periodically replaced. The best way to extend the life of your flexible impeller is to never run a pump dry. Not replacing an impeller can result in serious consequences, as is the case with engine water pump impellers which, when they go kaput, can result in engine overheating and costly damage. You can shop for a marine pump impeller by using our online Sierra Engine Parts Finder or by selecting one according to the dimensions of the one you want to replace. The dimensions you need to know are the number of blades, the width of the blades, the overall impeller diameter, the shaft diameter and the drive type. For more information on this, see the West Advisor article Impeller Replacement 101. Brands sold at West Marine include Jabsco, Johnson Pump, Sierra and others.
