INTERLUX Micron® Extra Antifouling Paint

Multi-season, self-polishing, no paint build-up Micron Extra combines the slime blocking power of Biolux™ with controlled solubility copolymer antifouling paint technology to provide long-lasting, full-spectrum defense against fouling organisms. Micron Extra incorporates Biolux™ along with cuprous oxide to achieve complete protection against shell, weed and slime fouling. The antifouling ingredients are chemically bonded into Micron Extra’s copolymer matrix, which is engineered to gradually wear away as the boat moves through the water, much like a bar of soap. This self-polishing process results in the constant, controlled delivery of biocides from freshly exposed paint film surface, and assures consistent, long-lasting performance and maximum efficiency. Micron Extra retains its antifouling effectiveness when hauled and can be relaunched without repainting. The longevity of Micron Extra is related to the amount of paint applied. Can be applied over tightly adhered, sound, hard, conventional antifouling paints after thorough sanding. Multi-season, self-polishing protection with no paint build-up. Two coats minimum required. Not for sale in California and in States where prohibited by law.

Most expensive but not the best

Its the most expensive but not the most effective bottom paint out there. I've used the West Marine PCA Gold and it out performed the Extra and the PCA was half the price!!!

Comments about Interlux Micron Extra Antifouling Paint:

This is the best bottom paint I've used. It is easy to apply. Unless you go crazy with the paint roller, splatter will be very little. I used 1 gallon on my 28 foot with a 10 foot beam. I had enough for two coats with enough extra to hit the high wear areas again. It holds up very well to pressure washing. It lasted 4 years in fresh water. I used a cheaper paint after it wore off enough to have openings in the paint. The cheaper paint barely lasted a season if that. I'll never use any other bottom paint as long as I own a boat.

Comments about Micron Extra Antifouling Paint:

Applied Interlux gray barrier coat & top coated with Micron Extra Black Three years ago on my 25' Donzi. Boat is in water from April till late October. Beach it two times each year for a sand bar party and to check the bottom and drive. Two or three areas starting to show gray barrier coat so it's time to put on two more top coats plus one additional on leading edges. Also Inertlux Ultra on my 30' sail boat lasted well for four years before barrier coat started to show. Once again recoat and good to go for many more years. I've had friends use less expensive ablative bottom paints some worked some didn't.I've used both Hard & Ablative over 50 plus years of boating. Over the long haul ablative is less work, less expensive and the boat power or sail will perform better!

A very heavy bottom paint that appears very nice. Have not had a chance to evaluate the life of the paint. Very pricey.

Comments about Micron Extra Antifouling Paint:

Original application, exactly as instructed. Paint chips off when power washing at end of season. Next year you sand down bad spots and reapply. Following year more chipping off.
More extensive sanding and reaapilcation.Followed by more chipping next year. Now your paint is getting heavy on boat and you have a mix of thick and thin spots. Thick spots tend to chip more with power washing. Every year more work

Comments about Micron Extra Antifouling Paint:

Used Micron Exel to apply antifoul paint to the underwater hull and keel of my 22' sailboat. Mixed well and applied by roller and brush. Covers good with first coat. Dries quickly for rolling and brushing. Waited over the recommended 16 hours to apply 2nd coat that rolled out easier. Overall appearnce looks good. My experinece has been 3 seasons in the water with one coat holds up well. By boat spends 5 months in the water and remainder time on the trailer. Bit pricey but good results. I recommend it and using it again.

Comments about Micron Extra Antifouling Paint:

Used this for bottom paint on my 16' flats boat. It's been on for a month now and still looks great. This product was recommended by other people in the marina. Only issue is local stores do not carry this product in quart sizes so you have to order it. It takes 2 quarts for 2 coats on a 16' boat.
