Power Charger Battery Chargers

Your introduction to the quality of Mastervolt, the high-quality marine Power Chargers offer you many features in a lightweight, compact design.Power Charger battery chargers feature high- frequency switch mode technology, which makes them extremely efficient and lightweight; they are power factor corrected (>0.98).  Designed for worldwide marine applications, they offer universal input (90-265Vac, 50/60Hz).  They may be used with lead acid, gel AGM or spiral batteries and will charge up to 3 battery banks simultaneously.

Power Chargers also include an auxiliary power supply to provide DC voltage. Even if the batteries are not connected, they can revive a “dead battery” and their built-in memory functions prevent overcharging.  Power Chargers feature variable speed fans to adjust to ambient temperatures.  Providing full charging current even with low-quality power, they offer no reduction of charging power if input power is low.  Designed specifically for the marine environment with corrosion-resistant materials, the Power Chargers feature easy-to-read displays, captive screws and keyhole slots for ease of installation.

All Power Chargers meet global standards including FCC class B, over temperature, ignition protection, UL, ABYC requirements and are CE certified.  The Power Charger series is not compatible with Mastervolt’s MasterBus network CANbus system.  If you’d like to expand to this system, please use the ChargeMaster series in your application.

  • Number of Outputs: Three
  • Automatic Functions: Fully automatic multi-stage, multi-battery charging.  Have the ability to charge “dead batteries.”  Auto-ranging universal input voltage (90-265V AC, 50/60Hz), auxiliary power supply, are also compatible with low-quality power sources.

I bought this charger to replace my burnt out guest 2815 in my 97 Four Winns Vista 278. All the other chargers on the market (promariner & guest) all received bad reviews on the web and seem to only last a year or two. However, I found more positive reviews on the web on the Mastervolt than any other charger.

I have a friend who installed a mastervolt charger 3 years ago and he swears by it. I was sold.

What is a GREAT point with the Mastervolt is it will handle DC loads while charging your batteries - other chargers will detect a drop in battery voltage, increase the charge, and burn themselves (and/or your batteries out). This charger will cut charging to the battery and switch to DC to handle the load, therefore not overloading itself or your batteries. This is important if you are like me and while you have the charger turned on, you are operating DC accessories on your boat (fresh water pump, lights, refrigerator, lights, et. al) Im fairly certain this led to the demise of my GUEST charger, as they arent designed to handle DC loads while turned on charging batteries.

Installation was VERY easy. The charger seems very well built and has a nice LED lit display panel that lets you know exactly what the charger is up to. The unit also has a built in fan, which runs continuously when the charger runs.

My Mastervolt 20a 3 bank charger automatically detected that I had AGM batteries, so I didnt even have to set it. Score!

This unit also fit in the space Four Winns had installed my old charger and was similar to the profile of the old charger I had. All of the new chargers are more wide than they are tall and this posed a problem for me. The Mastervolt is more tall than it is wide.

So far, the charger has done a great job. I highly recommend it.

I am a part time live-aboard who relies on batteries and charger. I switched from a West 10A/2 bank charger made by Xantrex that was destroying my batteries to a Mastervolt 12/25/3. Installation was straight forward, charger seems to be very well made and relatively compact. It charges quickly and batteries are lasting much longer. That said, it is just a little noisy and makes a high pitched whining sound when charging, so you might want to install it away from berths. In maintenance mode when there is any draw, it cycles on and off regularly. This means it's doing its job, but can be annoying if you are within a few feet and the whining starts and stops. It also produces some heat when charging, particularly in bulk and absorbtion phases, so ventillation is important. I think the charger is cycling on and off more frequently after 2.5 years on the same wet cell batteries due to plate sulphation. Unforunately, on the 12/25/5 model, there is no equalization mode to address the sulfation. I'm told their larger models have it, but at this price, so should this one. I consider this a drawback, and gave it only three stars as a result. If equalization is not important for your needs and battery chemistry, then this charger is a good choice. If I could give it 3.5 stars, I would.

Comments about Power Charger Battery Chargers:

I've had two of the 20 amp chargers in service for four years and they're still going strong. I'm an electrical engineer with $1,000 worth of AGM batteries (Lifeline and Odyssey) on my boat, so I'm more than a little critical about battery chargers. There's a saying that: "only rich people can afford cheap batteries," and I believe that also applies to battery chargers. I suggest you buy the temperature compensation sensor with the charger - it does the job.

The fans do make a little noise, so it's best to locate the charger where that won't cause a disturbance and where's there's plenty of air to dissipate heat. As other reviewers have noted: this charger will not go back into absorption-charge mode when a load is applied. Other chargers I tested would do that, and the continual unnecessary absorption voltage will eventually ruin your batteries.

Two years now on my 40A unit. Installed, plugged in and my batteries are 100% all the time. Go out, run everything on my batteries and if they go a little low, I just run my genset for an hour, done!

Comments about Power Charger Battery Chargers:

Bought 2 replacement battery chargers for a 32m Motor yacht one year ago. One for the mains and one for the gensets. All Mastervolt. The one for the mains stopped working. Sent it off to their tech department that said it was under warranty. When they received it they said that it must have had a large surge and it would have to be replaced. They offered a new one for a 15% discount but refused to fix it under warranty. The funny part is that the boat has MANY safety functions that prevent any voltage spike including an Atlas system. Nothing else was affected including much more sensitive electronics. That being said, I would not recommend these chargers for two great reasons. They stop working and when they do you will have no warranty.

I bought this after the xantrec junk went out. I had just bought the boat and has 3 group 31's. I think the xantrec killed one of the batteries as well.

So after reading many reviews this one fit the bill. Powering12 volt system while on shore power instead of batteries supplying this power and constantly being recharged is even more reason to like it. This thing is also HD compared tot the toy charger it replaced. I got the 40a x 3 bank. So far so good after 3 months. This is installed on a 38' carver santego and was plug and play with existing wiring. Very easy install.

Retired professional, I live in a 3ed world country and trying to get a good charge for jel and wet batterys is impossiable. I bought a MASTERVOLT 20A 2 years ago from West marine and it has been working since it was delievered. I put 12 volt recepticals on my gen sets and motorcycles. The ones that I'm not using is always plugged in and I have not had a battery failure since. I just ordered my second MASTERVOLT 20A from West marine because I have moved the location of my motorcycles and I want them on a seperate charging system. I feel you can not go wrong if you buy a MASTERVOLT charger. I pay double what you might pay because of fright charges to Vietnam and VAT and import tax. They are worth it to me.
