I have a 2001 Bayliner Ciera Sunbridge 3055, I keep it on a trailer at home in the off season, from November to April, I was getting it ready for the 2013 season, servicing the engines, waxing etc. I noticed that my antifouling paint was in need of refreshing after 3 seasons. I called West Marine and described what I had and the lady on the phone recommended Pettit Hydrocoat. I ordered two gallons and it arrived in three days. I pressure washed the bottom of the boat and the drives/props, Then I jacked the boat off the trailer (use caution) and blocked it. I then painted over the trailer bunks, three coat. The next day I lowered the boat on the trailer and painted the rest. Two gallons, three generous coats on a 30ft boat. Goes on easy, water clean up, good finish, minimal smell. The paint dries very fast so don't put too much at the time in the pan because it will make a skin on top. Can't talk durability yet but thus far, very satisfied.

My boat is a forty foot Beneteau sailboat. I had the bottom done last fall with the regular hydrocoat. I sailed from South Carolina down to Miami in October. Within two weeks of being anchored in Miami I had barnacles growing on the bottom. I had a diver clean the bottom. After a few weeks more the bottom was getting covered with slime and grass. Well I had the bottom cleaned again in April for my sail back to South Carolina. The water was cold then so the paint did well. Buy July with the water temp at 86 deg and using the boat almost everyday with in weeks of another cleaning the bottom was covered with barnacles again. I am very dissatisfied with this paint and am trying to find something better for this haul out in a few more weeks. I want ablative paint, does anyone have any suggestions?

      Comments about Hydrocoat Antifouling Paint:

Used this product last year and it protected all season long in salt water. Bottom cleaned easily with power washer when hauled out at the end of the season. Water-based paint means easy application and easy clean-up from what can be a messy job. Worked so well, I'm applying again this year. Could have gotten a second season except for places where old bottom paint I couldn't scrap off last year has loosened over the winter.

              Comments about Hydrocoat Antifouling Paint:

I have been using it in MA on a 40' sailboat for 2 years. No hard growth but lots of brown/green slime. Easy to brush off but annoying. I did a test last year with SR on one side and standard on the other. I saw no difference at any time during the 5 month season. Save your money and don't bother with the SR is my conclusion.
That said, easy to use and water clean up is a joy. Also my previous micron had the same slime issues

                      Comments about Hydrocoat Antifouling Paint:

Marina applied to 22ft pontoon boat. Top coat immediately started coming off. Pettit dealer came to inspect and thought it might not have cured long enough. Provided paint to re-do. Marina re-applied per Pettit rep instruction. Paint started coming off within 2 weeks (top coat only, primer was fine). Pettit rep came out again and told us they were having problems with this paint on the west coast of Florida. Said they would have it re-done with their harder paint. However they would not pay the marina's labor. Fortunately for us the marina made it good with a different brand. Bad service Pettit. Marina shouldn't have to eat the labor to re-apply twice on your bad paint.

                          Comments about Hydrocoat Antifouling Paint:

I wanted to use an Eco-friendly product and have had good success with Pettit products in the past. I purchased two gallons of Hydrocoat SR to use on my 20 foot Grady White 209 Escape. I stripped the hull to bare gel coat and applied two gallons of Interlux barrier coat. I next applied one gallon of Hydrocoat SR and launched for the season. I keep my boat in a slip in southern New Jersey about 8 months of the year. The boat is run 2-4 times per week. After about 3 months, a moderate amount of yellowish brown slime had developed all over the bottom paint. When I pulled the boat out in December, the slime power washed quite easily as long as it was done before the slime had a chance to dry. The spots under the trailer rollers that had dried never came clean without sanding.
Thinking that I didn't have enough product on the bottom, I applied another gallon before launching this season. Now 4 months into the season, I again have a significant slime growth. It scrubs off easily with a soft deck brush, but I also get a blue color too so I know that some of the paint is sloughing off as well. The slime growth is pretty bad so I don't know if I could trade the effectiveness of traditional ablative paints for the lower volatility of this product.
The slime suppression is poor with this Hydrocoat SR.
