Plumbing Strainers
Water strainers keep marine plumbing systems free of debris.
Water strainers prevent debris from clogging pumps and plumbing systems on boats. Examples of marine water strainers include raw water strainers for marine engines, sanitation systems, bilge pump intakes and marine air conditioners.
Raw Water Strainers for Inboard Engines
Marine inboard engines that use seawater for cooling typically have a thru-hull bronze seawater intake water strainer which prevents large debris from entering the system. The intake water strainer is plumbed to a larger inline cylindrical strainer that includes a strainer basket that can be removed for periodic cleaning. Examples of these strainers include Groco’s ARG series strainers, Perko’s 0493 series strainers, Forespar’s raw water strainer and Raritan’s raw water strainer. Replacement strainer baskets are offered for all of these strainers.
Other Types of Strainers
Examples of water strainers used for sanitation systems, bilge pump intake, potable water systems and marine air conditioning systems include Groco’s WSB series of inline strainers and Shurflo’s inline swivel strainers.
If you happen to have a bilge pump with a remote intake, we suggest a strum box style bilge pump strainer, which is plumbed to the bilge pump hose and located in the lowest part of the bilge.
