I got a call from the marina that my 30' sailboat was sinking. The rule float switch (new design) had failed for the fourth time this year. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, you're obviously picking on the right guy. Stay away from this switch. The rule mercury float switch ran well for many years.

Comments about Rule Industries Rule-A-Matic Float Switch:

The last one I replaced in September didn't shut off and burned the bilge pump up. It was in for 2 years. Lucky boat was on strong lift or it might have sunk. The one I took out today did same thing , would not shut off. Fortunately I was on boat at time so I disconnected it before a repeat of the last one. Their web page has a very lot to be desired as for getting warranty replacement. What junk! Won't put out money for another.

Switch stuck on "on" and then failed completely after only a little over a month of regular use! I opened the "sealed" case and it was full of bilge water! Contacts were rusty and the switch shaft itself was sticking. Too bad for an ITT owned company. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Comments about Rule Industries Rule-A-Matic Float Switch:

I've been using this switch in a variety of boats over the years, and I can say it is consistent in one way - It lasts about a year and then fails. Sadly, the old mercury switches were far better.

Fortunately, replacement is easy, despite getting down into the grimy bilge, but now it's an annual event. Of course, it always fails at the most inconvenient times...

Comments about Rule Industries Rule-A-Matic Float Switch:

Installed product to replace older failed switch. Worked for exactly four showers, then failed. If it weren't for the existing installed base which makes it easy to replace, I'd go a different way with a different product to avoid the hassle of a another installation. Let's hope the replacement switch works more than four times...

I've been a loyal users of Rule for years, but when they removed the mercury they did a poor job of redesign. I have six in use on my boat. In the past, they would last for years, but no more. I buy the 5 year warranty & they stand behind it, but I am not going to keep replacing the switch every couple of months.
