I got a call from the marina that my 30' sailboat was sinking. The rule float switch (new design) had failed for the fourth time this year. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, you're obviously picking on the right guy. Stay away from this switch. The rule mercury float switch ran well for many years.

Comments about Rule Industries Rule-a-matic Switch:

Switch stuck on "on" and then failed completely after only a little over a month of regular use! I opened the "sealed" case and it was full of bilge water! Contacts were rusty and the switch shaft itself was sticking. Too bad for an ITT owned company. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Comments about Rule Industries Rule-a-matic Switch:

I've been using this switch in a variety of boats over the years, and I can say it is consistent in one way - It lasts about a year and then fails. Sadly, the old mercury switches were far better.

Fortunately, replacement is easy, despite getting down into the grimy bilge, but now it's an annual event. Of course, it always fails at the most inconvenient times...

Comments about Rule Industries Rule-a-matic Switch:

Installed product to replace older failed switch. Worked for exactly four showers, then failed. If it weren't for the existing installed base which makes it easy to replace, I'd go a different way with a different product to avoid the hassle of a another installation. Let's hope the replacement switch works more than four times...

I've been a loyal users of Rule for years, but when they removed the mercury they did a poor job of redesign. I have six in use on my boat. In the past, they would last for years, but no more. I buy the 5 year warranty & they stand behind it, but I am not going to keep replacing the switch every couple of months.

Installed this unit in June and it worked for a month but now will not initiate the pump even when covered with inches of water. If I manually flip it up, it won't stop when the water has been pumped dry.

This float switch lasted just over the warrantied 2 years. It worked until then as advertised but not happy to be buying another so quickly. Went with the 5 year warrantied float switch this time.

Replaced pump and switch after many years of service. New pump still working fine but switch fails to turn on even in maximum up angle. A sharp rap frees up internal (reed?) switch and then the switch fails to turn off in fully down position. SO, if your doesn't sink from the first failure, the battery will be dead following the second failure and will sink after the next heavy rain.
