Rule-Mate Fully Automatic Bilge Pumps

The new eco-friendly Rule Mate series of Bilge pumps feature a solid state water sensing technology that eliminates the need for a separate float switch. When water enters the bilge and reaches a certain height (2-3/4 inches) a sensor turns the pump on. After the water is pumped out, another sensor shuts the pump off.

The sensor's unique "field effect" technology is programmed to recognize the dielectric constant of water only. In the event of an onboard oil spill, straight motor oil that enters the bilge will not turn the pump on. It's part of Rule's continuing commitment to preserving our waterway.

The new Rule Mates are available in 500, 750 and 1100 GPH models. Rule has been building bilge pumps for 30 years. The pumps are preferred by yachtsmen and commercial fishermen the world over.

  • All-in-one pump & switch—no float switch required
  • Pump turns on when water level rises & shuts off when water is removed
  • Will not pump oil—straight motor oil will not turn pump on
  • Snap-off strainer for easy cleaning
  • Anti-fouling impeller
  • Limited three year warranty

Comments about Rule Mate Fully Automatic Bilge Pumps:

This unit is designed to shut off when the circuitry within detects that there is no load on the impeller. The problem is the water that remains in the discharge hose has enough head pressure to load the impeller. So it just runs and runs.
What a waste of my time installing and then removing to return it for a refund..
I will always read reviews before purchasing from now on.

Comments about Rule Mate Fully Automatic Bilge Pumps:

Bought first pump a year or so ago. When fishing water leaks into the bilge. Pump would come on and not shut off. Would clean with soap and fresh water and would shut off. Kept having same problem. Saw Rule at Boat show and complained. They sent me a new one. It does the same thing. Had to disconnect auto and run on Manual only. Bad design.

Comments about Rule Mate Fully Automatic Bilge Pumps:

I installed one of the 500 gph models. The first problem was that it did not detach from the strainer easily. Wiring was straight forward. It turned on after a seconds hesitation and drained the bilge down to about half an inch when it lost suction. It did not turn off for nearly five minutes however. Figuring it might be a fluke I poured buckets of water in and it turned on at about the stated height. It then drained the bilge down to about half an inch again but after nine minutes it had not turned off. While it was still running I pulled it out of the strainer and held it in the air. After about 30 seconds it shut off. I then returned it as defective.

Comments about Rule Mate Fully Automatic Bilge Pumps:

As most of the above, I have a small bilge in my sailboat. To save room I purchased this. I installed and it worked fine for the first day. Came back the next day and pump was running and could not shut it off except with switch.

"Will not work in auto" Rule needs to fix this!

This shows you the power of these reviews. I bought one of these Rule 750 pumps and it would not turn off after a few months use. I replaced it with another and it failed as well. Should have read these reviews. Will never buy this pump again.

This is the second one I installed and had the same problem on both. When to "auto turn on" kicks in the pump does not shut off and drains the battery.
