RULE INDUSTRIES Rule-Mate Fully Automatic Bilge Pumps

The new eco-friendly Rule Mate series of Bilge pumps feature a solid state water sensing technology that eliminates the need for a separate float switch. When water enters the bilge and reaches a certain height (2-3/4 inches) a sensor turns the pump on. After the water is pumped out, another sensor shuts the pump off.

The sensor's unique "field effect" technology is programmed to recognize the dielectric constant of water only. In the event of an onboard oil spill, straight motor oil that enters the bilge will not turn the pump on. It's part of Rule's continuing commitment to preserving our waterway.

The new Rule Mates are available in 500, 750 and 1100 GPH models. Rule has been building bilge pumps for 30 years. The pumps are preferred by yachtsmen and commercial fishermen the world over.

  • All-in-one pump & switch—no float switch required
  • Pump turns on when water level rises & shuts off when water is removed
  • Will not pump oil—straight motor oil will not turn pump on
  • Snap-off strainer for easy cleaning
  • Anti-fouling impeller
  • Limited three year warranty

I have installed several of these pumps over the last year with no comebacks. I especially like the test button on the back of the pump. Connecting the pump with reversed polarity will ruin the switch and cause it to run continuously. I found this out repairing a customer self install. The pump is clearly labeled with a polarity warning.

I installed it the first time and it worked good for 2 weeks and than it was not shutting off.
I returned it and got a new one. Same problems
won't shut off after water is pumped out.
I think the water sensor gets dirty and when water hits it, it acts almost like wet mud and keeps on pumping until it dries up. It's only a mater of time until rule upgrades it or goes back to the older styles....I hope.

Comments about Rule-Mate Fully Automatic Bilge Pumps:

I replaced the old unit on my Sea Ray bow rider with this new Rule unit. The smaller bilges wouldn't fit the hose that I already had run to my side port, so I went with this unit so that I didn't have to change it out. It's overkill for my boat, but it defiantly works good. The unit that this replaced had both the bilge and external automatic switch mounted. This one is much simpler with it being automatic and all internal on the unit. The test feature is nice also.

I installed two in the spring of 2014. One year later and one pump now runs continuously. Fortunately I have battery chargers or it would have run my batteries down.

I arrived at my boat after a 4 week period to find my 30 Timber Cruiser nearly sinking. THE BILGE DID NOT TURN OFF. FLATTENED THE BATTERY.ONLY 4 MONTHS OLD. I HAD WATER HALF WAY UP MY OLD DIESEL MOTOR. There are so many of this complaint on this forum...RULE, how can you conscientiously sell this rubbish. DO NOT BUY RULE 1100. I'm getting a refund and buying something that works properly. I'm on Facebook tonight to bag this garbage. THROW IT IN THE BIN. And don't write to me RULE with a form paragraph about your 3 year warranty. It would have been useless if my boat sunk.

I have the same issues that have been posted since 2011 !
After killing three batteries at about $380.00 each I have found that the pump runs on almost contiuosly or untill the batteries have died !
A $1500.00 lesson is a hard one and a sunk boat would be worse !
A working bilge pump and three new AGM's will fix it right !
THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN A KNOWN DEFECT FOR THREE YEARS AND RULE KEEPS SELLING THEM !

This pump failed after a year. Will take it back to WM to exchange. Unfortunately I'm sure I will have to take the exact one again.

This Product is great. works great everytime. Looking at the other reviews I've had these issues but these issues was due to a fine film of oil in the bilge. The manual states this will prevent the pump from turning on. Great environmentally friendly feature. I pulled up the floor boards and scrubbed the hull with degreaser and never had a problem. Pump also will not shut off if it is wired incorrectly. There is a polarity warning. If polarity is reversed you will fry the solid state switch. I am on my 4th year with the one I have now and works with no issues. I love it and will def buy another one in the future.
