RULE INDUSTRIES Rule-Mate Fully Automatic Bilge Pumps

The new eco-friendly Rule Mate series of Bilge pumps feature a solid state water sensing technology that eliminates the need for a separate float switch. When water enters the bilge and reaches a certain height (2-3/4 inches) a sensor turns the pump on. After the water is pumped out, another sensor shuts the pump off.

The sensor's unique "field effect" technology is programmed to recognize the dielectric constant of water only. In the event of an onboard oil spill, straight motor oil that enters the bilge will not turn the pump on. It's part of Rule's continuing commitment to preserving our waterway.

The new Rule Mates are available in 500, 750 and 1100 GPH models. Rule has been building bilge pumps for 30 years. The pumps are preferred by yachtsmen and commercial fishermen the world over.

  • All-in-one pump & switch—no float switch required
  • Pump turns on when water level rises & shuts off when water is removed
  • Will not pump oil—straight motor oil will not turn pump on
  • Snap-off strainer for easy cleaning
  • Anti-fouling impeller
  • Limited three year warranty

I have installed several of these pumps over the last year with no comebacks. I especially like the test button on the back of the pump. Connecting the pump with reversed polarity will ruin the switch and cause it to run continuously. I found this out repairing a customer self install. The pump is clearly labeled with a polarity warning.

won't shut off after water is pumped out.
I think the water sensor gets dirty and when water hits it, it acts almost like wet mud and keeps on pumping until it dries up. It's only a mater of time until rule upgrades it or goes back to the older styles....I hope.

I have the same issues that have been posted since 2011 !
After killing three batteries at about $380.00 each I have found that the pump runs on almost contiuosly or untill the batteries have died !
A $1500.00 lesson is a hard one and a sunk boat would be worse !
A working bilge pump and three new AGM's will fix it right !
THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN A KNOWN DEFECT FOR THREE YEARS AND RULE KEEPS SELLING THEM !

This pump failed after a year. Will take it back to WM to exchange. Unfortunately I'm sure I will have to take the exact one again.

This Product is great. works great everytime. Looking at the other reviews I've had these issues but these issues was due to a fine film of oil in the bilge. The manual states this will prevent the pump from turning on. Great environmentally friendly feature. I pulled up the floor boards and scrubbed the hull with degreaser and never had a problem. Pump also will not shut off if it is wired incorrectly. There is a polarity warning. If polarity is reversed you will fry the solid state switch. I am on my 4th year with the one I have now and works with no issues. I love it and will def buy another one in the future.

As common, it stopped shutting off after about a year. Called the 800 number to be told they know of the problem - it's very common, take it to the store. Removed and took it to the store with receipt information, to be told this product normally fails within 2 years, too bad - go away, we only talk to you if you bought the extended warranty. The manufacturer 2 year warranty is not honored by the stores. New pump was purchased, but not from West.

I went through three of the 750 gpm automatic pumps before giving up and buying an Attwood automatic pump with a float switch that worked immediately and continues to work. These Rule pumps have profound problems sensing rising water and can sink your boat.

Purchased the 750 gph unit for my main bilge pump. From day one, it did not work in the automatic mode......would not turn on with a foot of clean water over the top of it. Works in manual mode and when you hold the test button for 5 seconds but NOT IN THE AUTOMATIC MODE!!
Worthless to me!!!! Was going to exchange but read the many problematic reviews. Can not trust this unit for a main bilge pump. Going to try an Attwood pump.
