Replaced my old Lectra San unit and all of the old hoses with this. It was stiff, but slid onto fittings fairly easily, so the job went pretty quickly. Looks (and smells) a lot better! We'll see how long it lasts.

I replaced the 20+ year old black rubber hose and holding tanks on 2 heads. Getting the hose over an aluminum or nylon barb is extremely difficult. I was told to soften with a heat gun. This only softened the hose making it impossible to slide on. I tried dishwashing soap on the barb to no avail. I tried using 2 pipes in the hose to stretch it but had no luck. In the end I settled for getting the barb about 1'2 inch into the hose.I tied pulling it off but it seems to hold.

I've heard using smooth barbs works much better. That's great if you're starting from scratch, but usually it's working with wahat is there.

After 35 years all of our boat plumbing needed to be replaced. We used Shields because of the good reviews from previous people. So far we are happy.

It requires a lot of pressure on the hose clamp to seal. It is very hard.

Hose is very tight on a 3/4 barg, had to heat in boiling water to fit on the barb, would say this is excessive.

Comments about Series 148 Multi-Purpose Vinyl Hose:

I used this for a newly installed Rule 25D Bilges on my SeaDoo. The size of the fitting from the bilge says 3/4". There was no way this was slipping over the 3/4" barbed fitting on the Rule Bilge. Since it was already cut and approximately $4 a foot and the store is a good drive from my house, I decided to put the heat gun to it. The hose went on eventually but the hose doesn't have memory, if that makes sense. It will easily kink and remain that way. I wouldn't recommend it for my application.
