I replaced the 20+ year old black rubber hose and holding tanks on 2 heads. Getting the hose over an aluminum or nylon barb is extremely difficult. I was told to soften with a heat gun. This only softened the hose making it impossible to slide on. I tried dishwashing soap on the barb to no avail. I tried using 2 pipes in the hose to stretch it but had no luck. In the end I settled for getting the barb about 1'2 inch into the hose.I tied pulling it off but it seems to hold.

I've heard using smooth barbs works much better. That's great if you're starting from scratch, but usually it's working with wahat is there.

After 35 years all of our boat plumbing needed to be replaced. We used Shields because of the good reviews from previous people. So far we are happy.

It requires a lot of pressure on the hose clamp to seal. It is very hard.

Hose is very tight on a 3/4 barg, had to heat in boiling water to fit on the barb, would say this is excessive.
