STINGRAY HYDROFOILS
XRIII Hydrofoils

The StingRay Performance System is designed to get your boat on plane faster, eliminate chinewalking and porpoising, and improve stability and fuel efficiency. The system is based on the Hydrofoil Stabilizer, now made with SPEED-XP™, an extreme performance hydrophilic material that increases the speed that can be achieved over previous models. SPEED-XP™ binds a thin layer of water to the foil, dramatically reducing hydrodynamic drag and improving overall performance. Unlike simple curved or flat planing aids, the StingRay actually creates lift, improving cornering ability. The StingRay’s ability to get on plane more quickly not only benefits waterskiers, powerboat racers and others looking for quicker acceleration, it also improves safety by keeping the bow down and improving your field of vision. StingRay is easy to install and includes all necessary hardware; the XRIII features no-drill installation.

  • Put your boat on plane faster, eliminate chinewalking and porpoising and improve stability
  • Reduce hydrodynamic drag and improve fuel efficiency and overall performance
  • Easy installation, hardware included
  • StingRay Jr. is for smaller engines (from 1 1/2-40hp)
  • StingRay Torque Equalizers minimize steering torque, improving boat control

I have a like new Baretta Phaser 230. The hull is built to go fast and has an 5.8L OMC Cobra outdrive with a 19in aluminum prop. Before installing the XR 3 the bow lift on hole shot, with the drive trimmed completly down, made it dangerous to launch on a busy lake and difficult to pull a heavier skier up. In no wake zones the bow would wander left to right to the point where my wife refused to take the boat out. At speed, there was some porposing but not severe. After instalation, the hull would flatten out almost instantly on hole shot and with 4 adults and 4 children on board a 220 pound skier would pop right up. In no wake zones the boat was manageable by my wife. As an unexpected benefit I could turn with more control and less trimming.
I have used other hydroplanes in the past but none made as extreme difference as the XR. The boat is still capeable of running 45+ on an open lake. the device has never slipped loose and I did not drill holes to mount it. Running my 3rd season with the XR and several friends have added them to their boats. My only complaint is the XR badge pealed off while running. No big deal, I do not need a badge on the XR, just better performance.

installed on mercury 115 EFI 4 stroke.
fitting over engine vent plate for this particular engine is poor, does not fit securely and does not insert fully without trimming torque fin hole on stingray foil. forget fixing with torque fin assembly, it does not hold safely and recess on hydrofoil does not match properly.
ended up sliding foil over vent plate with torque tab in original position and drilling 2 holes to secure foil to engine.
bolts provided with foil don't fit well on foil bolt hole and plastic caps don't fit over installed bolt/nut.
bolts/nuts did not come with washers.
foil decal came unglued ( poor quality control )
foil leading edge under vent plate is square with poor hydrodynamic.
after all performance is satisfactory but design is very poor. not recommended, will probably end up making my own fins out of aluminium plate

Great product, Great find for 21' Center Console

      Comments about XRIII Hydrofoils:

Great product. Yes- it was an impulse buy while I was at West killing time but it's worked out well.

I've been trying to decide whether to add trim tabs on my 21' Boston Whaler with a 200 Verado to add lift to the stern, and decrease planing speeds. It does both VERY well. Tracks straight, planes easily with almost 1000 less RPM. Turns don't cavitate as easily, less motor trim needed, and top speed is reduced less than 3%. This was a great find.

Installation was straight forward if you work on your engine and it fits snug and has held up well for the last month and about 300 miles so far. One less star because round plastic insignia fell off the first day I had it in the water over 25 knots, but I prefer less advertising anyway. An all black model would be perfect.

        Comments about XRIII Hydrofoils:

This thing worked perfect but the install design needs some refinement, it cought water which oushed the underside down into my prop and this then cause my trim tab plate to break part way off and now it cavitates like nobodies business and is harder to stear than before, they need to refine the install for a 175 Evinrude OceanPro, it doesnt fit well. Would be better if it bolted on

Comments about Stingray Hydrofoils XRIII Hydrofoils:

I had major cavitation issues with my 30' Four Winns bowrider with Bravo I twin 377's. I tried toe-out adjustments, boat load adjustments etc. Nothing worked. Before I made the large investment of $1100+ for new 4-bladed props, I decided to try these hydrofoils. They were terrific!!! The cavitation is gone. My time to plane was cut from 5 seconds to under 3.0. Unlike the reviews I read, I lost only 1 mph. I top out out 50. The boat also handles better. At full throttle and ideal trim, the boat used to get a little squirrely. Thats gone too.

Comments about Stingray Hydrofoils XRIII Hydrofoils:

Fits well on our Evinrude Intruder 150, you just need to make sure you use the metal spacer plate between the threaded hole and the trim tab, otherwise you'll for sure crack it when tightening down the tab. With blue thread locker and the spacer plate in place, it holds on dead steady, even on choppy lake Michigan.

As for performance, we can now trim the boat out neutral even in 2-3 foot swells and 3/4 up when it's a bit calmer and it won't bounce around through peak and trough of the waves. Totally worth the money just on the ride comfort alone.
