STINGRAY HYDROFOILS

XRIII Hydrofoils

The StingRay Performance System is designed to get your boat on plane faster, eliminate chinewalking and porpoising, and improve stability and fuel efficiency. The system is based on the Hydrofoil Stabilizer, now made with SPEED-XP™, an extreme performance hydrophilic material that increases the speed that can be achieved over previous models. SPEED-XP™ binds a thin layer of water to the foil, dramatically reducing hydrodynamic drag and improving overall performance. Unlike simple curved or flat planing aids, the StingRay actually creates lift, improving cornering ability. The StingRay’s ability to get on plane more quickly not only benefits waterskiers, powerboat racers and others looking for quicker acceleration, it also improves safety by keeping the bow down and improving your field of vision. StingRay is easy to install and includes all necessary hardware; the XRIII features no-drill installation.

  • Put your boat on plane faster, eliminate chinewalking and porpoising and improve stability
  • Reduce hydrodynamic drag and improve fuel efficiency and overall performance
  • Easy installation, hardware included
  • StingRay Jr. is for smaller engines (from 1 1/2-40hp)
  • StingRay Torque Equalizers minimize steering torque, improving boat control

      Comments about XRIII Hydrofoils:

I have a like new Baretta Phaser 230. The hull is built to go fast and has an 5.8L OMC Cobra outdrive with a 19in aluminum prop. Before installing the XR 3 the bow lift on hole shot, with the drive trimmed completly down, made it dangerous to launch on a busy lake and difficult to pull a heavier skier up. In no wake zones the bow would wander left to right to the point where my wife refused to take the boat out. At speed, there was some porposing but not severe. After instalation, the hull would flatten out almost instantly on hole shot and with 4 adults and 4 children on board a 220 pound skier would pop right up. In no wake zones the boat was manageable by my wife. As an unexpected benefit I could turn with more control and less trimming.
I have used other hydroplanes in the past but none made as extreme difference as the XR. The boat is still capeable of running 45+ on an open lake. the device has never slipped loose and I did not drill holes to mount it. Running my 3rd season with the XR and several friends have added them to their boats. My only complaint is the XR badge pealed off while running. No big deal, I do not need a badge on the XR, just better performance.

worked good, but installation was poor. lost speed caps on my first trip. The entire plate fell off on my 4th trip. Liked the bolt Sport SE 300 mount better; and cheaper.

            Comments about XRIII Hydrofoils:

I installed this on my Bayliner 175 with a MerCruiser 170hp engine. Before I installed it, my small, light boat took forever to get up on plane and bounced in all types of water.

I tested it on a windy lake with some chop and the boat handled 100% better with very little bounce, even over large wakes and chop. The turns are better than before and I look forward to better towing ability.

Poor fit on mercury 115 EFI

                Comments about XRIII Hydrofoils:

installed on mercury 115 EFI 4 stroke.
fitting over engine vent plate for this particular engine is poor, does not fit securely and does not insert fully without trimming torque fin hole on stingray foil. forget fixing with torque fin assembly, it does not hold safely and recess on hydrofoil does not match properly.
ended up sliding foil over vent plate with torque tab in original position and drilling 2 holes to secure foil to engine.
bolts provided with foil don't fit well on foil bolt hole and plastic caps don't fit over installed bolt/nut.
bolts/nuts did not come with washers.
foil decal came unglued ( poor quality control )
foil leading edge under vent plate is square with poor hydrodynamic.
after all performance is satisfactory but design is very poor. not recommended, will probably end up making my own fins out of aluminium plate
