Terminal Tackle
Trustworthy Terminal Tackle
If you’re serious about fishing, what you have at the end of your line could make the difference between bragging on that trophy fish—or rambling on about “the one that got away”.
What is terminal tackle?
Terminal tackle includes everything that is tied to the end of a fishing line. Things like fishing hooks, floats, bobbers, sinkers, weights, swivels, snaps, split rings and various other items.
About Our Terminal Tackle Selection
Fishing is a highly regional sport with different requirements for equipment depending on where you fish. That’s why we vary our fishing tackle selection at the store level to match whatever type of fishing occurs near each of our stores. So, if you don’t see what you are looking for online, we suggest you drop by the West Marine store closest to where you plan to fish. That said, let’s take a look at several of the more common types of terminal tackle found at West Marine.
Weights and Sinkers
West Marine offers a variety of traditional lead weights and sinkers. Surf anglers often choose pyramid sinkers which tend to anchor in the sand to keep your bait where you cast it. Where the technique calls for retrieving the bait over the bottom, teardrop-shaped bank sinkers are often employed. The selection also includes egg sinkers (also called “sliding” sinkers, which are a component of “Carolina rigs”) and split shot sinkers.
Fishing Hooks
Offering every color and size option of fishing hook you can think of—Mustad has just about every type of fishing covered. Choices include circle hooks (preferred for catch and release), O’Shaughnessy hooks, treble hooks, big game hooks, tarpon hooks and many other types of hooks.
Tackle Rigs
Rigging the end of your line with the terminal tackle you need to catch whatever fish you are after is of course a must. West Marine makes this easy for you by offering terminal tackle rigs that are set up to catch different types of fish. Brands include Eagle Claw, Fin Strike and Sea Striker. Tackle rigs are offered for catching sea bass, striped bass, sand dabs, fluke, snapper, flounder and other species of fish.
