WEST MARINE TO HONOR "WORLD OCEANS DAY" WITH WATERFRONT CLEAN-UPS ON JUNE 5TH AND JUNE 12TH

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (May 13, 2010) – West Marine, Inc., the world's largest retailer of boating supplies and accessories, demonstrates its continued support of protecting the environment by working with local organizations on two separate waterfront clean-ups in Melbourne and Merritt Island in honor of "World Oceans Day." Local residents are encouraged to join the folks at West Marine on the scheduled clean-up days to help make their waterways cleaner and safer throughout the year.

World Oceans Day is honored by the United Nations each year on June 8 and it's similar to Earth Day, but it's for the oceans. West Marine has shown its commitment to protecting the environment and by promoting "green boating" with several company-wide initiatives not the least of which being the annual "Green Product of the Year Award" which can be found on their web site at www.westmarine.com/green.

MELBOURNE COMMUNITY DAY & CLEAN UP
On Thursday, June 3, the Melbourne West Marine Stores at 1509 N. Harbor City Blvd. and 1001 W. New Haven Ave. will hold a Community Day and donate 5% of sales to the Snook Foundation. On Saturday, June 5th between 7am- 12 noon, volunteers are invited to join the Snook Foundation and West Marine at the Indian River Lagoon clean-up (US192 Causeway launch in Melbourne; Claude Edge Front Street Park at 2210 Front Street). Teen Angers will be joining the efforts and t-shirts will be available for the participants, while supplies last.

MERRITT ISLAND COMMUNITY DAY & CLEAN UP
On Thursday, June 10, 2010 the Merritt Island West Marine at 320 W. Merritt Island Causeway will hold a Community Day and donate 5% of sales to install new cleats and dock guard at Lee Wenner Park Boat Ramp, to improve its safety and convenience. On Saturday, June 12 from 8am-3:00pm West Marine and the Brevard County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a clean-up at the Lee Wenner Park Boat Ramp at 300 Riveredge Drive (SW corner of Hubert Humphrey Causeway S.R. 520). Volunteers are invited to join the Power Squadron, the USCG Reserve in Cocoa, Teen Anglers and the Snook Foundation. T-shirts and refreshments will be available for volunteers, while supplies last.
