WATSONVILLE, Calif. (November 22nd, 2010)
West Marine, the country’s largest specialty retailer of boating supplies and accessories, announced the grand opening celebration of its newest Flagship location in Sarasota, Florida on Thursday, December 9 through Sunday, December 12, 2010. Area-boaters and anglers can take part in the weekend celebration at the store, located at 4708 South Tamiami Trail at the intersection of Proctor Road. Festivities begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 9 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and until 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Edgar Hansen, Deck Boss and Chief Engineer of the fishing vessel Northwestern, as featured on Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” will be at the Store, signing autographs from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. on Saturday
Additional family fun activities throughout the weekend:
- A Boat Show on site with over 20 boats, featuring numerous Suncoast area dealers. Catch the great grand opening specials!
- The Chairfighting Challenge will test anglers’ strength and endurance.
- Experts provide tips and tricks on how to maximize your boat’s performance and your fishing expertise.

“Casting for a Cause” Charity Night will be held on Thursday, December 9 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the store. Tickets are available for $10 through the following local charities: Suncoast Charities for Children, the Snook Foundation, the Sarasota Yacht Club (SYC) Charitable Foundation, MOTE Marine Laboratory, Sarasota Youth Sailing Program (SYSP), Englewood Sailing Association, Sarasota Bay Watch and the Sarasota Power Squadron. All of the proceeds will directly support these local charities. Attendees will enjoy food, drinks and live entertainment, courtesy of West Marine.
