There's a nice o-ring seal around the lid to keep the contents dry, but the problem is that the sides of the box aren't stiff enough, so it tends to deform slightly if you have something heavy in the box. Then the lid doesn't seal properly to keep the seal on the o-ring.

I love these boxes. They are great for storing anything you wish to keep dry. I have two one on each side of my bowrider. fits in the storage compartment no problem.
