Comments about Mariner 8500 8' 6dB VHF Antenna:
I used this to replace my old broken VHF antenna on my boat. It has a nice long cable that is well shielded. I was able to get a good strong signal after installation even with the antenna down like I have to keep it when at the dock.
You do have to attach the connector to the cable so be careful to follow the instructions to get a good connection. It's not difficult to do but takes a little care to get it right. Solder it for the best results.

Comments about Mariner 8500 8' 6dB VHF Antenna:
I put this antenna into my attic so that I could get reception from local pond where we go fishing and kayaking. Having just handheld unit on the water allows me to communicate back to home base for pickup, logistical support, or answer questions while I'm gone. This type of communication was not possible without this antenna as mobile antenna I was using did not have enough gain. This is great as cell phone is not waterproof but my West Marine VHF100 radio is!
Comments about Shakespeare Mariner 8500 8' 6dB VHF Antenna:
I purchased this anntenna to replace the OEM one that I broke. The anntenna works fine, but the squelch setting needs to be set so much higher to cut out noise. My tech told me that the setting is normal, but I've never had to set a squelch setting this high before.
