This is my second remote mic. Identical product plug-in suffered a loose wire in cannon plug connection; rather than get it repaired (Std Horizon only), I bought a new one. This is really a must have item if you have your VHF installed below decks (on a sailboat). I particularly like the display with the Lat/Lon readout (I connected the VHF to a GPS sensor) and the MIMSI capability. The "buttonology" takes a little getting used to as the menu items are accessed differently than the main VHF. However, with a little practice, it becomes second nature. For emergency applications, there are dedicated keys that are straightforward: open the cover, push the button for a few seconds and your distress call and position go out. Nice safety item.
