Comments about Stereo Weather Enclosure:
The rubber seal was a pain but after some fiddling it went together fine. Works well, but I would not mount this were it is directly exposed to the elements. I mounted mine inside my center console.

Comments about Stereo Weather Enclosure:
This thingy saved me from having to cut a hole in the cabin to mount my new Sony stereo. The gasket was a pain in the butt and there was a minor manufacturing defect in the dark plastic cover that does not show because of how I mounted it. Stupidity runs rampant in my family and if I can install this thing so can you as long as you're comfortable doing a little wiring.
I read the other reviews, saw all the negatives, but decided to go to the store anyway. I decided to purchase the unit and can't figure out why everyone was whining about this mount. I put it together in short time. Yes the gasket is a little weird to install, but a little super glue kept it on so the face plate could install. This is really a no brainer guys, so maybe everyone should hire a boat electrician to do work like this.
My last stereo survived over 5 year inside this unit (until an inadverted short killed it). Other stereos I've owned that were installed without this enclosure used to last 1-2 years. My new stereo will go inside the same enclosure I bought 6 years ago. I wish the fastening knob did a better job. I think is a good investment to protect your stereo.
Bought two. They both broke. Install is difficult at best. The second break away from under the dash shorted wires and blew an expensive amp. Expensive to buy - MORE expensive to own. If you buy one, give it away as a gag gift.
I have owned two of these and they have both worked well. I have them on a larger boat and my current one is on the fly bridge. It provides a convienent place to mount the stereo and provide security from the elements. The gasket was a little tricky to install but with some sealant it stayed where I wanted it until the front cover was secured. I had no problem with the wiring or mounting of the unit and between both boats I've been using this product for over 4 years with no problems. I enjoy it and recommend it for larger boats that don't get pounded around by the elements.
Buy at your own risk. West Marine must have a good warranty program to take these defective products back all the time. Again this is only my two cents.
I used this to mount my stereo inside my sailboat and it works and looks great. It is a little difficult to wire up the stereo, but with some patients its possible. I have had mine for 6 months, no problems. I think people have problems when they remove it everytime they use the boat and eventually overtorque the locking mechanism and break it.. I just leave it in place, so no wear/tear.
