Solar-powered ventilation 24/7
The improved design of Day/Night Plus Vents moves up to 1000 cubic feet per hour, freshening your cabin 24/7 by running on solar power during the day, while charging a small battery to run at night. The constant flow of air produced by these vents helps to keep boat interiors dry which extends the life of upholstery, electronics and metal components. Vents easily retrofit to existing 3" or 4" Nicro vent cutouts. Direct-to-deck mounting affords greater security and protection against theft. Each includes an insect screen, below-decks shut off damper and internal on/off switch. Two blades (exhaust and intake) are provided with each vent. Install a pair of these to create efficient cross ventilation.
- Type: Solar/battery-powered vent
- Material: Stainless steel or plastic
- Draw: No external power (NiMH battery/solar cell)

Comments about Day/Night Plus Solar Vents:
I installed this unit six weeks ago prior to launch for the season. My first visit after launch was this past weekend. The fan was still running and there was no mildew odor and no mold present. Interior cabin was almost totally dry considering the rain we have had. It appears this fan solves the dampness problem.
Service and delivery comments:

Comments about Day/Night Plus Solar Vents:
BE CAREFUL when you remove the 3 screws holding the lens on (first installation step). The small O-rings can be easily ripped and then must be replaced or the unit will leak badly. (Manufacturer would be better to leave these screws out, or at least loose, when shipping.)
Pros
- Visually Pleasing
Cons
- Not Durable

Comments about Day/Night Plus Solar Vents:
I had great hopes when I ordered 2 of these. Unfortunately they don't seem to last more than 3 months. I've had both die so far but the good news is that the warranty is fast and fairly painless so you do get replacements.
WHEN they work, they work well!

Comments about Day/Night Plus Solar Vents:
Installed a 4" in forward hatch last summer. Worked through the summer and was still working when the boat was hauled and shrink-wrapped. Have just unwrapped my boat and found that motor is no longer turning. Have recharged and replaced batteries-- but no go. Motor's dead. Will try to get replacement through warranty...but as others have said, the product seems almost certain to malfunction, which is frustrating to say the least.

Comments about Day/Night Plus Solar Vents:
I used two of these on an outdoor bomb shelter remodel. They went on the 2 outside stand up metal ventilation pipes and needed no fitting for the 3" size pipe. They did need a larger battery though. They come with a standard C-size nimh type rechargeable battery which is about 2,800 mah. I bought some 6,000 mah nimh and used those and it seems to last through the 3-4 cloudy days of no sun we see in south Louisiana each week. For the price it should come with the strongest and best rechargeable battery available, not a middle of the road battery. It does not move a whole lot of air, but it does seem to keep fresh air in the 150 sq ft underground space. These replace an earlier solar vent model from Nicro that lasted me for over 15 years and still worked, though not as well as the newer ones (larger solar panel on the newer ones as well as batteries to run them 24 hours a day).
Oh yes, and be VERY careful changing the battery -the solar cell is held on by only 2 small wires which will pull loose and need to be re-soldered if you let the solar panel hang loose or fall after it is unscrewed (like I did). There really should be a strong safety cord to prevent this from happening as the batteries will probably need to be changed every 2-3 years since they do wear out over time.
The instructions were detailed, in english, and all correct and easy to follow.
All in all a good product, though quite costly, but price was in line with similar solar vents.
I got the stainless steel ones and painted them - the steel is pretty thin and just covers plastic behind it. Product would be much better with a much thicker, all stainless steel shroud.
