Comments about West Marine Coastal Automatic Inflatable Life Vests:
My wife and I just crossed the Gulf of Mexico sailing our Beneteau 393. We wore this Life Vest from West Marine. We were impressed on the comfort and mobility while wearing them. West Marine's life vests are reassuring when you have to move around a sailboat with 18kt of wind and 5ft following seas.

Comments about Coastal Automatic Inflatable Life Vests:
The high humidity of south Louisiana does not allow you to store the PFD in your boat as we do. It is inflated every time we pull them out of dry storage. It quickly becomes a very expensive life vest to maintain. Not practical at all!

Comments about Coastal Automatic Inflatable Life Vests:
We ordered the Periwinkle/Black vest for my wife who is a purple nut. She was excited about the Periwinkle color of the vest shown on the product description page. Disappointed after it arrived however, because it is actually a lite blue color.
This has nothing to do with the quality of the product and it looks to be well made and the instructions easy to follow.
Hopefully we will never have to use it as intended so can't comment how well it works. When it gets close to time to replace the CO2 cartage we will let one of the grandchildren jump in and give it a test for us.

Comments about West Marine Coastal Automatic Inflatable Life Vests:
It is heartening to know that even if a crew member is knocked out by a swinging boom or slip and fall that their vest will activate and save their life.

Comments about Coastal Automatic Inflatable Life Vests:
Excellent for boating as I actually wear it. Live in Canada but bought it at West Marine in the States as it goes for half price there. Don't care if it is not CSA approved, USCG approved is fine for me.

Comments about Coastal Automatic Inflatable Life Vests:
After over 20 years of sailing and boating, I purchased this primarily for racing sailboats. I am normally on the bow, and when offshore conditions are up, one just never knows what can happen. I've never come close fallen off a boat yet, but I've been tangled in spin sheets and had collisions where spin poles have swung violently just over my head. Now with two young kids, this vest is great insurance. This will also be great for my sportfishing boat too. Having always worn a regular PFD on my Hobies, this is much more comfortable and nearly unnoticeable. The only time it comes into play is when leaning over the rail for kelp checks. The clear plastic inspection window is an issue. One race day, and I wore a hole thru it. Some moleskin should help. Other than that, it is easy to use/activate, it includes a whistle, and it has a small zippered pocket for misc stuff.

Comments about Coastal Automatic Inflatable Life Vests:
this item is a real must for safety! so comfy it will be worn all the time. PFD's are not worth a hoot when in the bottom of the boat! recommended to me by two retired generals who had witnessed multiple drownings with vests lacking the automatic inflation feature. I purchased mine and two for my sons. i just returned from a Canadian trip where a PFD saved a canoeist who had a seizure.

Instructions to find and install the CO2 cartridge were clear.
We bought 2 of these, (his and hers) and they fit great in both cases.
