Same fast processor, high-sensitivity receiver, and simple interface as the 441s
Move up to a 5" display size with the GPSMAP 541s chartplotter/sounder. Same fast processor, high-sensitivity receiver, and simple interface as the 441s.
What You’ll Get
GPSMAP 541s is ready to go with an easy-to-use interface and a built-in, satellite-enhanced chart that includes all U.S. coastal areas, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as detailed charts for the Bahamas. It also accepts BlueChart® g2 Vision cards for added premium features and functionality such as high-resolution satellite imagery, Mariner’s Eye 3D-mapping and Auto Guidance technology.
GPSMAP 541s is equipped with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for superior satellite tracking and quicker acquisition time. Its built-in antenna works for most external mounting locations and even under hardtops and some pilothouses. For some below-decks installations, an external antenna may be needed. Order the GA 30 GPS Antenna (Model 11068681) if initial installation doesn’t provide optimal GPS signal reception.
What You’ll Need
GPSMAP 541s operates either dual-frequency 50/200kHz (500W) or 80/200kHz dual-beam (400W) transducers, sold separately. Depending on the style of the transducer, you’ll get depth, speed and/or temperature readings. To complete your installation, order one of the following transducers:

Comments about 5" GPSMAP 541s Chartplotter/Sounder with No Transducer:
Garmin shipped an entire lot of these to West Marine that do not have the Firmware Update to accomodate the G2 Vision Cards, thus meaning you cannot use these cards on ANY of the Garmin units now in their stores. So as stated, unless you have an SD Card reader on your computer, you need that to download the update from Garmin. Or you need to purchase a $29.99 Card pre-loaded from Garmin, or have West Marine order it for you. Garmin will not ship a unit that has the correct FirmWare to West Marine, they refuse to. So the G2 Vision cards are useless when you purchase one of these units, no matter how high in cost you go. I personally went to the store to determine whta the problem was; until I finally got a resolution to this; which was ordering the pre-loaded SD Card. So the store is now ordering a card to upload to all their units in their store. But I'm paying for my card, while anyone else purchasing a unit, is now getting it for "free". Not quite fair; but it resolve my immediate problem. Garmin could care less about this issue; and this is Garmin for you. I don't blame West Marine for this issue, as they had no idea the FirmWare was out of date; until I brought it to their attention. Either way; Garmin should have resolved this issue, by sending out this FirmWare card for "no charge" - rather than putting someone through the hoops and loops I have gone through. So if you purchase a unit, make sure the FirmWare has been updated if you plan on purchasing a G2 Vision card. Also, with the purchase of a G2 Vision card, included is a black piece of paper, which entitles you to an upgrade within 6 months, good luck with that from Garmin (lol) as I'm still trying to figure that one out as well; it's almost impossible to read on this piece of paper. Garmin doesn't make anything easy at all !!

Comments about 5" GPSMAP 541s Chartplotter/Sounder with No Transducer:
I use the unit on a sailboat in the ocean off Santa Barbara. I find the unit difficult to use as it is all menu driven and takes multiple entries and selection to do anything. There is little ability to change the data displayed in any maning ful way.
There is no way to show VMG, useful on a sailboad. The off-course indication has changed from degress correction to distance off-course. On a 20 nm trip in open water knowing you are 1 deg off course is a more useful than knowing you are .3 nm off.
The mounting is such that it is very easy for theunit to fall out ot he mountjst from adjusting th viewing angle

Comments about 5" GPSMAP 541s Chartplotter/Sounder with No Transducer:
I have been using this unit for about a month now with the G2 Vision Card and it is simply great. I love 3D fish eye view. I use this to follow the edges of ledges while trolling. This is a great option. The auto guidance is another great thing with the G2 vision card. Pick a spot on the chart screen and the unit will guide you right to it safely.
