Comments about Aqua Signal Series 23 LED Portable Lights:
Poor design, will die after exposure to rain.
The culprit seems to be the switch: I was able to bypass the switch by inserting tinfoil in the battery compartment, and the light then comes on bright and steady.
Wrote to Aqua Signal and requested a replacment.

Comments about Aqua Signal Series 23 LED Portable Lights:
We use about a dozen of these on rowing shells in salt water. The shells occasionally tip over or the lights are hit by a wave/wake. These lights are very good as long as they don't get wet. All of ours have leaked. Salt water gets in the switch contacts, so the light glows dim even when off. Eventually the light fails, probably due to switch contact corrosion. These lights last about a season and then have to be thrown away.

Comments about Aqua Signal Series 23 LED Portable Lights:
Great idea but execution is bad. I have had two of the all-around white lights fail after getting wet. It is hard to believe this design for something that is used in the marine environment. Hard to say what another option would be for a battery powered dingy light but this doesn't cut it.

Comments about Aqua Signal Series 23 LED Portable Lights:
Unfortunately there are not a lot of options for battery powered nav lights. These looked promising but they are not waterproof. Both lights (bow and stern) failed after one rain storm. Water appears to leak in around the lense gasket and corrodes/shorts the light. Both are ruined.

Comments about Aqua Signal Series 23 LED Portable Lights:
Over priced for a flashlight with a green and red lense. But it seems to be the only thing out there to do the job. I am using them on a small work boat and nav lights are needed but are constantly getting damaged. So removable lights save money in the long run.

Once again the FEDEX lad went out of him way to make the delivery.

Comments about Aqua Signal Series 23 LED Portable Lights:
I use these lights for my two 42' dragon boats. There's no other battery operated nav light out there, so I have to use these. They aren't waterproof. Water leaks into the light where the dome meets the body of the light. To fix this, you need to remove the rubber exterior, and place sealant at the seam where the dome meets the body. Do this PRIOR to using the light. Once water gets in, it corrodes all the contacts. If you seal the light first, it'll be fine.

Comments about Aqua Signal Series 23 LED Portable Lights:
These lights would be a great product if they didn't leak. The electrical conductors are plated steel and rust away within a year. Through a recent design improvement, it is now impossible to disassemble body to replace rusted-out conductors.
If these could be made truly watertight, they would be wonderful. Unfortunately, if you want a reliable self-powered dinghy light, you can either take these into the cabin with you every night, or make your own. It's really too bad because these come so close to being perfect. the led light is excellent and they are sturdy.
Many cruisers try to seal theirs with silicone sealant. We haven't been able to make this work.
So I'm reduced to making my own. West Marine, you really need to lean on these guys to make them seal better.
