Comments about Galvanized Steel Thimbles:

I used West 3/4" thimbles to make my mooring lines for the last 20+ years. I replace the lines and thimbles every 3rd year. Until this year, I never had a problem and the thimbles held up well.

At the end of the 2011 season, I found 1 thimble missing and the remaining one had holes worn or rusted through. I was able to snap it in half with a pair of pliers.

I don't have a convenient source for alternates, so I'm using them again, but unless quality improved since the last time I bought them, I have little hope they will last 3 years.
