Comments about HX300 Compact Floating Handheld VHF Radio (Unpublish per Marc Huerta):

Nice handheld. Great Value.
Light, easy to use. Scanning features found on more expensive models.
FLOATS! A big plus.
Standard USB charging cord, also a plus.
I bought this as a backup radio in case of power loss or emergency on the boat.
Perfect for my use, because I have DSC on my fixed mount, with GPS Integrated.
If you do not have GPS somehow connected to your primary radio, I would recommend buying one with GPS built-in.
Highly recommended as a back up emergency radio.

Comments about HX300 Compact Floating Handheld VHF Radio (Unpublish per Marc Huerta):

Have had this radio for about six months now, absolutely love it and very happy with the purchase! Used it volunteering at a local event and was able to get a better connection with the nearest coast guard station than the Coast guards own handheld at the event were. It's lightweight but rugged, to carry so it's always ready in an emergency. Battery life better than advertised, and since it's charged by USB I can charge from outlet, computer, car, or inexpensive solar unit.

During summers I work with a local Parks and Recreation department, one camp we offer takes kids out to a fairly remote island with almost no cell service, hardly any regular visitors, and only sporadic State Park ranger visits. I keep the radio with me at all times, around camp, hiking the island, et, confident that I could easily contact coast guard or local police boat if any sort of emergency occurred.

Great buy, couldn't recommend highly enough!

    Service and delivery comments:

Staff at my local West Marine helped me choose this radio, recommended it as a great mid-range, user friendly yet feature-packed radio. I have found it to be equal or superior to top of the line radios from this and other brands. Thanks West marine!
