Comments about Swiss Army Mariner Knife:
Designed for mariners this multi-tool can cover most minor and/or emergency repairs. Not loaded down with gadgets you'd seldom use so it's easy to quickly locate the one you need. Quality construction yet lightweight. The only knock is that the phillips screwdriver is a bit too short for some jobs but otherwise this tool is extremely handy.

Comments about Swiss Army Mariner Knife:
When I first got the knife, I was skeptical that it was heavy duty enough for the job. But when I tested it, I was pleasantly surprised with both the large serrated blade and the marlin spike. In a line-cutting contest (hardened 1/2" hemp and 7/8" nylon line) that included at least ten other serious knives, the Helmsman large serrated blade was the clear winner. It sliced through like a good ribeye, leaving a perfect cross section, rather than fraying and sawing with other serrated blades (including Spyderco and Cold Steel). The marlin spike separated the cords of the lines with ease. It's not locked, but it's not sharp and won't hurt you if it folds up some. It's beveled on the end, so you can do fine work, and the more you use it, the more you realize you don't need it to be locked. Like the serrated blade, it requires so little effort to work, that the knife doesn't have to be "heavy duty." . I was skeptical, but the field test made a believer out of me. I've ordered a Victorinox leather sheath for it, and plan to use it as essential boating gear.

Comments about Swiss Army Mariner Knife:
Great quality knife and has been my daily carry for the past year. I have found the shackle key extremely useful as a wire bender, nail cleaner, wing nut wrench, and pry bar. I love the locking mechanism. Overall this is a great knife that is like having a emergency toolbox with you at all times.
What I do not like is that the wonderful serrated blade (which still cuts like a razor even after 1 year of not being sharpened) requires two hands to open. This action is not a easy task on the heaving bow of a boat when trying to cut a line free from the rigging while holing onto the lifelines for stability. For this reason when I am on the water I also carry a large satinless serrated sheepsfoot folding knife with a belt clip that I can open with one hand.

Comments about Swiss Army Mariner Knife:
It's a nice all-around knife, and I've used the "shackle key" for lots of things, like prying knots open and laying strands of rope up to 3/4" open for splicing.
