I BOUGHT THIS COMBO FOR A CATFISH TOURNEY AND THIS BABY WAS AWESOME.TOTALLY SMOOTH AND EASY REELING IN TEN PLUS POUND FLAT HEAD CATS.THIS ROD AND REEL MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE THE FISH HAVE NO SHOT OF GETTING AWAY.I FELT ALL THE HITS NO MATTER HOW SMALL THEY WERE,NOT BAD FOR A HEAVY ROD.CASTING IS THE ONLY THING I WOULD LIKE THIS COMBO TO DO BETTER....OR MAYBE IT'S JUST ME.

Comments about Battle Spin Combos:
After years of buying mostly Shimano reels, I find that Penn has become my goto choice. The Battle may be the best value on the market. It is incredibly smooth. The 2000 and 3000 combos come with adequate lightweight, fast tip rods that are perfect for casting light lures. The 4000 comes with a medium weight rod that can handle heavier lures and jigs. It also performs well when bait fishing with larger sinkers. Like most combos on the market, the price is kept down by including less expensive rods. I probably would have invested in a nicer rod if I was making separate purchases, but frankly, if the included rod holds up, I'm more than satisfied. I do wish Penn offered some rod options like length and action with each reel size, but I'm sure keeping it simple is one of the ways they keep the price down. All things considered, this is a great package and a great value. I highly recommend it.

wrote a review and it didn't show up. Will try one more time, bought one 3000 model, used it and liked so much went back and filled one of West Marines rod racks up. Purchased 3 more 3000, 2 5000 and 2 6000 for dolphin fishing. The day I used the original 3000 it got a heck of a workout on 3 different groups of reds from 22inch to 37 inch reds. Several nice snook. Had new $500.00 combos on boat and never touched them. Penn you have a winner with battle reels. Reel combo was recommended byC.J. at west marine who I have spent several dollars with. Thank you C.J.

Comments about Battle Spin Combos:
For inshore this is the best rod combo I have found in 30 years. Went with the 4000 reel for weight and line capacity. Have been spooled several time before I could turn a running fish. Not now. Major league Baseball players have bats made to their weight and length preference, now we have a rod and reel combo made for our preference. Well done Penn.
