bar none the best jacket I've ever owned. I hate being cold and I hate being wet. We have a very wet boat (a bay boat in the Gulf of Mexico)and I've treasured having this jacket (Women's jacket of course) since my husband gave it to me for my birthday. I'm back to buy him one for Christmas. It's light enough to wear when it's 70 degrees and roomy enough to put a hooded sweatshirt under. All the drawstrings, velcro, & neoprene are what make this jacket better than your old windbreaker.

I sail and bought the jacket for foul weather. It has been well cared for and seen little use. I recently made a long passage (8 hrs.) in steady light to heavy rain. At the end my back, shoulders and arms were soaked. Not waterproof at all! With the name Third Reef I expected better!

Love these coats, but they spend most of their time in the hanging locker. In warm weather we wear lighter weight rain gear. Got these out a few weeks ago when a storm was approaching and my hand stuck to the label. It had liquefied on two coats. Covered them with tape and they worked fine, ripped them out and they work better.

The bright colored hood saved my life durng an off shore race capsize. I put up the hood and that is how the guys spotted me in the huge rolling ocean swell. The only downer is the jacket lining fell apart after being totaly submerged but hey no complaints here I just ordered another one. Thanks West Marine.

I owned the prior Third Reef design which was too warm for most of my use, summer fall racing and cruising. The new design is lighter weight and breathable.

I use this jacket for sailing and racing in Galveston Bay. I had a little mud on my jacket from race committee work so I rinsed it off lightly with a water hose. I immediately noticed dark spots under the outer layer. I held the jacket up to the sun light and looking from inside I could see that the waterproof material between the outer layer and inner layer was deteriorating, breaking into tiny pieces. I could actually feel it through the inside. Needless to say, this is why I was thoroughly soaked last weekend and nearly froze to death! The bib pants seem to be fine. Just the jacket is worthless. A buck fifty in the trash can.

Very warm, blocks the wind. Not so bulky to restrict movement. The Bi Direction Zipper needs improvement. Actually swapped the coat at local store to find one that zipper worked better. Three others were similarly weak in the same spot, just as you try to start the inital movement of the zipper up. The two sides of the zipper dont mesh well initially.
