Comments about Drill Pump Kit:
This pump is adequate for the DIY engine maintainer. It is not nearly as fast or convenient as the much more expensive pro units. On the other hand, it did work. Warm up the engine for a few minutes, stuff the small tube down the dipstick, put the output hose in a plastic screw top bottle, attach the drill and go.
It does take two hands, one for the drill and the other for the pump. The process took about 10 minutes. I used a 12v lithium ion drill on high. It took a whole battery's worth. Have a second charged battery on hand.
I was able to clean up the plastic tubing with paper towels and managed not to spill any oil. Something about the tubing made the clean up a little easier than other pumps I have used.
The price still seems high for what it is, but it is cheaper that the other powered alternatives. The hand pumps just do not work.

Cons

- Ineffective

Comments about Drill Pump Kit:
This drill pump is just not that great. Yes, it functions for the purpose it was created for. However, here are the down sides: 1) It is VERY cumbersome to use. You will need at least 2 people to pump anything. One to hold and operate the drill. One to hold the intake in the engine or transmission. 2) You need a drill WITH A CORD. A cordless drill will run out of charge before you are done. 3) It pumps so slow that you will go nuts waiting and holding stuff. 4) My pump burned up even though they said it could be run dry. There is a period in time where there will be nothing in the pump while you are waiting for the fluid to get to the pump. I found a FAR BETTER alternative. [@] You will throw your drill pump in the drink.
Pros
- Easy to Use
- Handy
- Weather Proof
Cons
- Not Durable
Best Uses
- Engine
- Sucking oil
Comments about Drill Pump Kit:
This pump comes in very handy in different parts of the boat. You can use it to take out water sitting in tight and narrow places in the bilge and the best use for it is to suck oil from the dipstik of the engine (that is really great). however, ensure to let it run for couple minutes in a water with soap and then in pure fresh water to make it live longer with same quality.

Comments about Drill Pump Kit:
I purchased this pump to extract oil from my boat engine. It is a complete joke. I warmed the engine up like the directions say and then started pumping....nothing happened. I tried the dipstick tube....nothing. I tried connecting a hose to the dipstick tube...nothing. I made up a short hose...nothing happened. I spent about two hours trying to get this thing to work and finally purchased a vacuum style pump and it worked fine. Don't buy this if you are serious about changing your oil.
I wish I had read the reviews on this site before I purchased this pump. I bought it to change the oil in my snow blower and then my boat. Fortunately I first used it on the snow blower where an accident" was of relatively little consequence. This thiing was difficult to use on an easily accessed drain port on the snowblower. It takes two people to use effectively; one to hold the drill and the pump and the second to work the syphon hose. Took forever to suck out 1/2 liter of oil and drained the battery on my portable drill in short order. I'm taking it back to West Marine tomorrow. I stick to my vacuum can for use on my boat."
My opinion is based on a single usage with a 2-cylinder Yanmar diesel and a sump capacity of about 2 litres (warm oil). Was on the ragged edge of draining 12-volt DeWalt battery pack at the end - but I don't know what the (6-year-old) pack's state of charge was at the start. Process was MUCH cleaner than using the hand pump lent to me by the broker at the start of the season. Hard to tell when the suction hose is at the bottom of the sump. It's probably best to go slow when you are close to sucking air.
Overall a great product after my first use. I used a dewalt drill to power the pump on low speed and it worked great.
Very difficult to use - drained cordless drill in a matter of minutes. Seems messy and not very efficient. Probably works great in aquariums and wading pools, but changing the hot, dirly oil on a boat, especially with only one person, is nearly an impossible task. Best to upgrade.
This oil pump has worked well for me pumping a few quarts of oil out of a small diesel each season. It is fairly slow if the oil has not been warmed sufficiently by running the engine and it requires two hands to hold onto the pump and drill at the same time. However, it can easily be stored in a small plastic bag and stuffed into a corner between seasons and it allows oil to be pumped directly into empty oil containers for no mess transportation to the local recycling center.
I cheated and used an air powered Highspeed and it still took me 10 min to draw 5 quarts of oil out. Intake hose could be longer. I used on my 5.7 Mercruiser and only had 4 inch of hose to work with when intake hose is inserted into dipstick. I only use it once a year, it will work just fine. I have used it on my car as well with positive results. I am happy with purchase
