Limited space for additional antenna, as well as limited area under center console led me to this alternative. When properly installed, product delivers much greater signal strength on entire FM spectrum. No loss in VHF performance (Shakespeare Galaxy 5225-XT 8' VHF antenna with extension, mounted on hard top). No negative effects on chartplotter & other electronics

If you have a sailboat with a mast mounted VHF antenna this thing should work like a charm provided you get the right one for your type (metal or fiberglass) antenna. In fact, it works too darn well and using "seek" on FM will cause it to stop on almost every freq. I only could get one nearby AM station before installing and now I get them all but there is an annoying buzz on some AM stations that I haven't figured out how to get rid of yet. Disconnecting the shore power and/or turning everything but the stereo off does not help. FM reception is excellent and my VHF performance is unchanged. You do not have to solder the center pin on your VHF connection if you pull the stripped center wire through the hole on the end of the pin and bend it around then force the connector back into the VHF. I suspect this product might be a waste of money on powerboats without a mast or flying bridge but I could be wrong.

I purchased one of these splitters for my sailboat and can pick up AM radio from a station almost 200 miles away so I can listen to Rush. Be sure you get the proper one because the models for fiberglass and stainless don't seem to interchange.

Didn't improve FM reception and I get zero AM reception using this and an eight foot antenna. Don't waste your money, get a dedicated AM/FM antenna...

I used this splitter to connect my AM/FM stereo to my 8' VHF antenna on top of my hard top. The stereo had better reception before I used the splitter. What a waste of money! Now I am going with an actual, dedicated antenna for the AM/FM stereo.

This did nothing to improve the FM or AM signal. I connected it to an 8 foot antenna on top of my hard top and there was no change whatsoever in signal strenght. Now I am left with mounting a dedicated antenna on top of my hard-top. This was a complete waste of money.

This device is useless. Even the Shakespears' tech support I contacted agreed by saying If you wanted AM/FM reception you should have got a dedicated antenna" I threw my money away on this. Should not be allowed to sell."

I used this to share the mast top wip antenna between the VHF and AM/FM antenna. Reception was zero for AM before adding this, after it was excellent.
