Works well on calm days even when there is some rolling, however if you are going to be in rougher water then our inland lake, in a boat rocks more than ours you may want to spend the money to get the one that secures in the rod holder. I bought this one since there was a back order on the one that locks in. Works great for us, but can see the advantage of locking into the rod holder.

could not use my existing cutting board for years
as the pole holders on the boat were offset and could not be adjusted properly.
Received the unit for xmas, even though my board was not a magma it fit on the mount perfectly.
i could even use the existing bolts for attachment.Now i can use the cutting board on any of the pole holders, Quality of the product and ease of installation was great.
