Comments about Wincher Self Tailers:
These work great. Once I changed my sheet lines to a larger diameter, operation was easy. I have a Tanzer 22. My new sheet lines are 1/2 diameter.
Three wraps around the winch and the sheet self tails when the line tension engages.
You do not have to wrap the line in the grove like a metal self tailer. When the line rides up on the winch, the line jams against the lower side of the blue collar. That's how it locks. To release just flip the line over the top.
I now sail solo with my genoa and tack without fussing with a cleat. The key is to use the right line.
If you have a Catalina 22, 25 or a Tanzer 22, you will be happy.
Before installing soak the self tailers in warm soapy water. That softens them up. Also tie a string through the donut hole so they don't get away from you.
