Mercury Marine’s 4-stroke technology consumes 40% less fuel than 2-stroke models for extraordinary value and savings
Engines surpass California Air Resources Board (CARB) 3-Star Rating, making them some of the cleanest running on the market-with 91% less emissions than traditional 2-stroke outboards! The inherent 4-stroke characteristics of ultra-quiet, smoke-free operation, plus smooth idling and running make these engines a natural choice whether you’re trolling for fish or out just for fun. Clean running 4-stroke engines from 2.5 to 20hp have a CARB three-star, ultra-low emissions rating. The decompression system and electronic CD ignition design ensure an easy, reliable start. One-stage over-rev protection and low oil pressure warning system provide extra peace of mind. Exclusive multifunction tiller handle on the 8hp and 9.9hp models features shift, steering, throttle, throttle friction, and stop controls for convenient one-hand operation. To prevent the oil from leaking during transport, the engines are not shipped with oil in their crankcases. You must put the correct amount and grade of oil in the crankcase prior to the first use or you will cause extensive damage to your engine, which is not covered by your engine’s warranty. Mercury 15HP 4-Stroke
I use this engine on a Roughneck 330 RIB, and at firts everything went okay. Easy to install, does not consumpt much fuel, and fast.
As I have used many other engines, this one is defenitily good. It is quite heavy, but that is actually the only con i have except for the price.
Know that all Mercury outboards under 50 HP are produced by Tohatsu ( i came out after i purchased this engine ).
Tohatsu is cheaper, and the exact same engine. Though, this Mercury has a nicer desine and looks more compact.
Overall, a good engine for cassual use.

Comments about 15hp & 20hp 4 Stroke Outboards:
I purchased this motor for my fishing boat (A Sun-Dolphin) and it works GREAT! No noise, fast out of the hole, runs all day and I use an eye-dropper to fill the gas tank. Plus it being a four-stroke you are not contributing to water pollution. Had the electric trim installed on it but do not find much use for it Works great but I do not think worth the $. ;-)

Comments about 15hp & 20hp 4 Stroke Outboards:
The engine is most likely very good BUT make sure if you order the electric start you are not getting a tiller! You will have to buy from Merc or other vendor a remote control and cables. No one at WM told me about this and was clueless when I told them there is nothing in the online catalog or product page that leads you to think you will not have a tiller. Understand I am not upset with the engine, store or staff there.

Comments about 15hp & 20hp 4 Stroke Outboards:
I use this on my 14' Jon Boat. It was easy to install onto it and it runs amazing. It gets up and goes fast and easily manuverable. This is the best motor I got for my boat and I couldnt be happier. the only thing I don't like is it is a little loud on idle.
