Comments about Cetol Marine Wood Finish:

To achieve the best results, I usually remove any old varnish by sanding. If not, the Cetol will not penetrate those spots, and leave splotches. Also, use several light coats, instead of one heavy coat. Too heavy, and it can get uneven and gooey. On smooth exposed areas, I use a green scotch bright pad in between coats to smooth it out, then wipe down, and reapply. Good stuff.

Comments about Cetol Marine Wood Finish:

I have a '72 Tartan with wood coamings and rails, and also a powerboat with teak swim ladder in freshwater. Cetol is "every other year" answer to varnish blues. Best is that it wipes off of white fiberglass with mineral sprits and a paper towel. Been using Cetol for over 6 years. it's magic!

Installed 4 coats on my railings. I mixed 4 parts of Teak and 1 part Light. Perfect color and it's easy to apply. Looks great after a year in the rain.

Comments about Cetol Marine Wood Finish:

I've been using this stuff on my Cape Dory 25 for about 10 years now. Once I've applied about 4 coats, it lasts for several years. Gets lots of compliments, too. To redo, I just lightly prep the teak and reapply a few more coats. Great stuff and I don't have to go through all the issues with varnish.

Best to apply 2-3 coats of Cetol Marine and then build up the next layers with Cetol Gloss. Then you only have to touch up the gloss which is very easy to do.

                  from Acton, MA USA

For years, we tried staining, varnishing, and even oiling our brightwork. For varnish, the wood required extensive, tedious, and time-consuming preparation (usually including removal from the boat). The oil never seemed to provide an attractive finish.

                  from Richmond, Indiana

Cetol is the logical choice for those who prefer their bright work to be truly bright with minimal annual care following initial application.
