Designed for boats with existing mechanical steering systems. The mechanical linear drive provides powerful thrust, fast hardover times and quiet operation.
- Low backdrive force, to minimize the drive’s effect on the boat’s steering when the autopilot is in standby
- A powerful electric motor controlled by an electromagnetic fail-safe clutch, using a high tensile belt drive and epicyclic gearbox
- High performance for minimum current consumption

Comments about Type 2 Linear Drive 12 V:
We installed the Type 2 after burning out the drive on a Type 1 (the size recommended for our boat). The type 2 is more powerful - it tore a hole in the plate used to attach the old Type 1 to our quadrant. The new attachment point is stronger - strong enough that this time the bolt attaching the drive to the quadrant broke. These work great, but do carry spare parts if you are sailing offshore!
