Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:
One of my pair failed whilst trolling and I lost my rod, reel, lure etc. As noted in other reviews the screws joining the bracket to the tube are too short. Mine lasted about 9 months. I'll have to remove the other one and try a different product. Product is a waste of time and money and should be removed from sale.
The tube is also lacking any gimbel device in the bottom to stop the fishing rod turning, which is pretty important if you're using heavy reels in anything but flat conditions.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:
Purchased twin pack before last season and had no problems. Looking to buy another set I was concerned about all the negative reviews so I checked the mounting hardware and couldn't believe how short the inner bolts were. I then replaced the two inner bolts with 1/4-20x1/2" bolts & standard lockwashers. The bolts protrude approx. 1/8" into the tube which shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully that does the trick. Good Luck !

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:
I bought a pair of these early in the season with the intention of using them to hold nets. I mounted them to hand holds on the bulkhead. Within a week or two one of them came loose and fell off - not the mounting but rather the bolt between the mount and the rod holder. This bolt screws into the rod holder and is so short that only a few threads are engaged. When it fell off, I almost lost my net (which cost more than the rod holders). There's no way I would entrust an expensive rod and reel to these devices. I wound up replacing them with better made holders.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:
I bought a pair of these rod holders at a local West Marine. They didn't hold up to my test of shaken the rod in them. The brakets came lose. The rods will be shaken alot running off shore. The two bolts that go into the back side of the rod holder only have two screws in them when it need to be welded together. Only a few threads holding them in and that's not sufficient for off shore waters run.
Yes I will be taking them back.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:
These should NOT be purchased as trolling rod holders. There is a design flaw (mentioned in other reviews) where the screw that holds the whole thing together will simply pull loose if too much pressure is applied to the rod while in the holder. This screw will also fail if you over-tighten the clamps. I tried using these for salmon trolling with 2.5lb balls, and they immediately broke. I was able to salvage the day by putting them back together and then lashing the assembly to the deck cleat with some dock lines, but that is certainly not how I want to go out every time! These rod holders would probably be fine for "stand up" fishing from a bow rail or something like that where there is not a lot of stress being applied to the rod tube.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:
I bought a pair of these rod holders at a local West Marine. They didn't hold up to more than one trip's use with a net in one. The bolts that go into the back side of the rod holder only have a few threads holding them in and that's not sufficient. While the CE Smith Rod holders (available from West Marine) cost almost twice as much for one as these cost for two, my next pair will be from CE Smith and I know those will likely last me a life time.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:
Have been happy with 2 of these since getting them at the beginning of last season. Last night one of them broke, and I came within a diving grab of losing a rig. Initially, it looks like the center bolt broke or backed out. In any event, I won't be putting valuable rods in these until I've taken them both apart and am comfortable with their construction. Oh, and I' going to get some rod leashes.

This rod holder snapped off boat while underway 2 months after I got it. Lost a brand new $200 rod and reel because of this piece of junk.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:
bought the twinpack to replace a worn perco rod holder. The package states heavey duty possitive locking, and shows a marlin in the pic. with that said we took a strike and it snapped the holder right off my 17 boston whaler, lost one 14/0 and rod and bent the brass safety hook wide open. Not to be a quitter. I replaced that one with the secound holder in the pack. Went out two days later, after the 4th Mahimahi on that side, the holder snapped off at the bolt again. I change the brass saftey hooks for stainless carabin and didnt loose the rod. I am hard core West marine so I took them back and received a replacement set and installed another... may be that was a bad set... Ill let you know next time out. Aloha and good fishing

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:
Don't waste your money on these holders. Both of the holders that I purchased in the twin pack malfunctioned and lost 1 rod in the drink, while the other broke while I was placing the rod into it. Spend the extra money and buy a higher quality holder...you'll be saving money and equipment in the long run.
