Comments about Double Braid Splicing Kit:
The fids work very well but .. the instructions Samson puts out are awful. I recommend the New England Ropes [@] video like another reviewer did.To make the fids run easier I polished them, concentrating on the tips. I would like a second, shorter pusher, guess I'll have to make that.

Comments about Double Braid Splicing Kit:
Bought these to learn splicing. Bought NE Ropes StaSet 1/4 and 3/8" (WM house brand). Tried to do eye splice for halyards and control lines. Fids would not pass through cover, especially if core was also present, no matter how much I tried to "bunch" up the cover to increase its diameter. I thought it was my technique until I easily did a splice with 5/16" Samson LS. I think the diameter of the fids is too large for StaSet or the StaSet cover just has a tighter weave than LS (I noticed that the StaSet cover has 3 strands/weave whereas LS has 2). I ended up creating my own fid with seizing wire to work with StaSet.

Comments about Double Braid Splicing Kit:
This set is a must have for anyone splicing rope or learning to splice rope. It comes with a nice tubular case for all the tools with red vinyl end caps. Another nice feature are the short fid length marks engraved in each fid. Very nice to have.
If you are learning how to splice double braid, I've got to suggest the "splicing double braid" video on Youtube by the late Andy Wall, Professional Rigger. He gives an easy to follow, step-by-step, demonstration on how to splice. It's how I learned.

Comments about Double Braid Splicing Kit:
I used this splicing kit to upgrade some rigging on my sailboat. I was primarily making eye-splices around sailing tackle with double braid line. The tools were essential to accomplishing this. The instructions weren't written as well as they could be. I did achieve perfect results by following a video by New England Rope on YouTube. The tools are well made and helped achieve great results. This kit is a 'must have' in every sailors toolkit. I would recommend a well written book on splicing with good illustrations to go along with this kit.
