    Comments about Sailor's Best Friend:

This multi-tool has the best tool options for sailing. Unlike almost any other multi-tool available, this has a proper marlinspike (for rope work and knots) which locks securely into place. It also has the preferred sheepsfoot blade with a half-straight, half-serrated edge. Both are lockable and accessible from outside of the tool.

Inside the tool, there are three flat drivers and one #1 Phillips head driver, plus a bottle and can opener, wire crimpers, measuring ruler, file, and hex head wrench (fits #8, #10, or 1/4" hex heads). The file has a slot that allows it to function as a shackle key, which is handy when you need to attach/detach the anchor to the rode or if a halyard shackle jams for some reason. All of these tools lock as well.

The only conspicuously absent tool is a scissors, which would be handy for trimming hard-to-cut items like fishing line. But the sheepsfoot blade is sharp enough to be an acceptable substitute. Regardless, having a proper marlinspike on this tool is still vastly preferable to having any other multi-tool with a scissors but no marlinspike.

The tool is very well built. Each blade/tool has a very slight amount of wiggle (about 1/32") in line with the tool (not side to side, which would be greater cause for concern). This is still well within acceptable limits. It feels very solid and does not impair the functionality, nor does it loosen any more with use.

            Comments about Sailor's Best Friend:

This is a variation of SOG's compound leverage multi-tool designs. Having West Marine's name stamped on the handle along with the SOG logo tells me WM had some input into it's design. The locking marlin spike and shackle key cut into the file distinguish this unit from other models. In typical SOG fashion, the tool is very nicely made in high quality polished stainless. The razor sharp blade is half serrated. If you had to go to sea with one tool, this would be it. A nice addition to any collection as well. Comes with nylon holster.

                Comments about Sailor's Best Friend:

Has everything a sailor needs in a multi-tool. The case needs a belt loop so it really stays attached. A better lanyard attachment also - don't want to lose this tool!
