Since its introduction by Paul Sperry in 1935, the Authentic Original® (A/O) has enjoyed immense popularity as both a functional boat shoe and good-looking casual footwear. Today’s A/Os have improved from the original by the addition of Sperry’s Full Active Comfort System, which includes a padded comfort wedge under the heel, EVA foam under both heel and forefoot for additional cushioning, a lighter, more flexible siped outsole and a leather sock liner. The shoe retains Sperry’s Top-Sider siped outsole, full-grain cowhide uppers, functional rawhide laces, and genuine handsewn moccasin construction. Imported.

My go-to summer shoes for knocking around. Great comfort if you don't walk to far in them. No support, no cushion for serious walking. Good driving mocs, good for picnics and barbecues, look good with jeans, khakis and shorts. They look better with age.

I wear these for everything from cruising to dinghy racing. Normally buy one pair in spring each year and they last 2-4 years. Last year's pair (May 2011) has already failed: the rubber soles have hardened, cracked and become slippery. Last weekend I slipped and fell AT THE DOCK! Am replacing them with West Marine's private brand.

I LOVE these shoes. I wear them all the time, year round. I've been wearing these shoes for the past 32 years (no not the same pair!) and absolutely love them. I have them in several different colors, but also have some that look just like them except they're made by Sebago and the Sebagos are so uncomfortable they're almost painful to wear. The Sperry Top-Siders feel just right though and they last forever.

One more thing that I REALLY like about these shoes: I have abused the heck out of them and would have expected to see them look all scuffed up by now. But they look GREAT! These are the lighter colored of the two choices. I'm uncertain if the dark pair will fair as well, but these are GREAT!

I was pleased to find that these met all of my expectations, which are pretty high. I was especially concerned about how comfortable these would be given that so many boat shoes are seriously lacking in that area (IMHO).
This is the second pair of this design that I've purchased and I'm still very pleased.

Top siders are spring-summer go tos when I'm wearing jeans/khakis and not shorts. Can't beat them for easy slip on and off, quick drying, wet surface safety, and flat out durability. I've owned three pair in 35 years, and I regret tossing my first pair! Second pair is all leather in and out and is now 20 years old. I've replaced only because they are a tad grungy for some social wear...
