Very pleased with all aspects of this unit. The only issue I see is the poorly written owners manual. Either spend the extra and order the dvd they offer, or go online to learn about setup and use.

Comments about Elite 5 DSI Gold Fishfinder / Chartplotter Combo:
Picked one up on sale at West Marine. Installed in on a Mako 181 Flats. Great small boat unit. Fits on a small console and the transducer is small as well. Charts are detailed and the Lowrance sonar maintains bottom images in excess of 40 mph. Very happy with it so far!

Comments about Elite 5 DSI Gold Fishfinder / Chartplotter Combo:
I've only had it installed for about two weeks, but the unit seems to perform as promised. The instructions for mounting the transducer were vague at best. After searching the internet, as well as looking at a lot of boats parked at the boat club, I finally settled on a location that seems to be far enough away from the prop wash.
The mount that came with it was a joke. It was adjustable up and down, but did not swivel. I ended up buying a Ram Mount for $45.

Comments about Elite 5 DSI Gold Fishfinder / Chartplotter Combo:
Having been used to using a Plotter with a 9 inch screen on by big boat, the 5 inch screen took a little getting used to, however the clarity of the GPS screen and the rapid response of the zoom made up for the smaller size. My only real concern is the clarity of the fishfinder. It is easy to see large schools of bait, but smaller contacts are not as easy to see. Part of that may be due to my partial color blindness, but I'm not sure. I really bought the unit for the GPS so overall I am very pleased with the unit.

- Simple To Use
Cons
- Combined Power And Sonar
- Manual Is All But Useless

Comments about Elite 5 DSI Gold Fishfinder / Chartplotter Combo:
Setting the unit up is easy but look at the internet manual - It is different than the one in the box and explains more. Mostly, anyone who works with electronics can figure it out on their own.
The combined power and sonar cables created some issues when installing the unit if you don't want to use the sonar as I will be using the unit for its charting capabilities.
The higher resolution screen was the deciding factor fo getting this brand over similiary priced units.

Comments about Elite 5 DSI Gold Fishfinder / Chartplotter Combo:
This was really easy to use, the Navionics chip is a nice add-in. The screen is easy to see, even with polarized glasses on. Waypoints go in easy, channel markers are distinguished and even half sunken vessels.
The only downfall is that I thought the Navionics chip was the one that would show contours, it's not, that's the Platinum, but for the money, I really like it.
