They warn not to use white LED behind a colored lense, because it's not bright enough. That's a drawback. Colored LEDs are sold for single color lenses, so my understanding is that a single-bulb bow light (red and green lenses) cannot use these LEDs.
After reading that, I was surprised that the LEDs seemed brighter than the incandescents they replaced. It's worth the extra cost to know that the battery will work all night.
Every LED light package should include a conspicuous note about polarity, especially with festoon bulbs. I practically rewired the boat before I remembered that LEDs are particular about polarity.

This light replaced a Perko 10 watt bulb perfectly and it only uses 1 watt. I don't have a way to charge my battery when I am out on the water and plan on taking a multi-day trip this Fall so reducing my power needs is a must. The package states that it replaces a "Perko Bulb Fig. 71" which is what I needed. The description implies that part of the bulb is made in the USA but it was designed in the USA. The product is made overseas which was a disappointment to me. There is a one year warranty so make sure you save your receipt and the display card in the package. I plan on trying this out for a while and then replacing all of my bulbs with LEDs if it holds up. I'll post another review after I've used it for a while.
