Comments about 6980 Rustlok Steel Primer:

I have been using this product for 40 years.
This stuff is tough! Fantastic for steel boats, bilges, trailers boat hoists etc.
Have used as primer and final coating without a finish color coat. Holds up great!
Hopefully the EPA will never ban this effective formula!

Comments about 6980 Rustlok Steel Primer:

I've been using Petit Rustlok Steel primer for years. This is the best, bar none, product for protecting metal surfaces from rust / corrosion. It is a urethane paint that can be applied over previously rusted surfaces to create a barrier coat that will inhibit corrosion even in hostile conditions. Here are some tips to using it. If it has been sitting for a long time some of the components settle to the bottom and you have to stir it thoroughly to get it mixed. Do the mixing slowly and carefully because unless you use the whole can you definitely want to avoid the product getting in the groove of the can where the can lid goes. This stuff is quite adhesive so if you seal the can lid with product in that groove you may never get it open again. Just keep it clean, use mineral spirits to keep the groove and the lid clean and you'll be okay. Remove loose rust with a wire brush but you don't need to be a perfectionist. It will seal in corrosion that isn't loose. Use a cheap brush because you're going to throw it away. Work slowly because it is thin and will splatter if you're slapping it on. And wear latex painter's gloves as it's hard to remove. I use this on a electrical meter pan on a seaside house that is exposed to salt spray much of the year. Also used it on the ring of mushroom anchors to make them last longer. Boat trailers would be another good application. Terrific stuff, it has saved me thousands in protecting metal products that otherwise would have decayed long ago. A little goes a long ways which is why you want to keep that paint can groove and lid clean.
