Some larger V-8 engines that create a large amount of back pressure use exhaust tubes rather than bellows. This helps to relieve the excessive pressure and eliminate problems with premature bellows failure. In the past, the exhaust bellows would blow up like a balloon and cause the drive shaft bellows to rub against the yoke and U-joints causing holes in the bellows.
