I used this ablative bottom paint for the past 3 years On my 35 Bertram and I have had excellent results! I previously had been using Interlux CSC and I have not seen any difference in performance using the west paint. I HAVE been very happy with the MUCH lower price of the west paint and have had the same results with regard to performance. I simply have the hull power washed at season end and I am ready fro another coat in the spring. The paint is constantly shedding during the in water use and this gives a fresh surface to repel growth and the added benefit of very little buildup. My boat yard has commented at how little growth my vessel has each fall at haul out. BY the way I launch in early March and haul out in December so I am in water for 10 months!

Not what I expected

I bought this paint cause of the great price. The problem is that it is Brown, not black.

Comments about West Marine Cpp Plus Antifouling Paint, Blue, Quart:

have bought higher priced paints in the past but tried this on advice of a friend...my boat is in salt water in NJ from mid april until mid dec...when pulled it has never had a barnacle in 6 years....just a little scum that is easily power washed....it applies smoothly...every spring it looks so good I debate as whether I need to repaint but I always decide to do it

Comments about West Marine Cpp Plus Antifouling Paint, Blue, Quart:

When used last year I think it worked much better,if it had been pre shaken it might have been better. Maybe it should have been thinned out but I didn't do that since I have never needed to on any other bottom paint used. Normally I can use one gallon for 2 applications, no way this time around. I didn't like the way it gummed up on the boat but at least I figured the ablative properties would take care of that by next year. I am disappointed!

Comments about West Marine Cpp Plus Antifouling Paint, Blue, Gallon:

I have used this product for six years now and it is a great bottom paint for the price. The only negative is that it takes about 25 minutes to stir the paint before use. Very heavy concentration at the bottom of the can. I apply one coat every Spring and it lasts through the season and then some.

Comments about West Marine Cpp Plus Antifouling Paint, Blue, Quart:

Each bottom paint performs differently in different locations. This West Marine ablative works exceptionally well in my area of the southern Chesapeak Bay. I replaced much more expensive paints with CPP ablative and have gotten 3 (or more) years between repaint. Huge savings. Still have to have running gear cleaned by divers but the hull never has anything more than slime. 43foot, fiberglass hull, Aft Cabin Yacht docked in a non fast current area on a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach. I can normally buy it 50% off during the spring sale.

Comments about West Marine Cpp Plus Antifouling Paint, Blue, Quart:

My boat has years of layers of black bottom paint. And to make it worse the initial paint job (12+years ago) was horribly done. The paint was 5 layers thick in some areas and completely flaked off in others showing shiny gel coat. Being that I bought the boat 18 months ago and it's 16 years old I have no idea what paint is on the boat. Other than it being some kind of ablative, that is all I know. So after 5 days of scraping and sanding the boat bottom was finally smooth, but leaving some areas with the old bottom paint.

Now to choose what paint to use. Have to be careful not to choose one that may react with the remaining old paint. Using the compatibility chart I knew I should try the CPP because it's prep only required light sanding with any other ablative type.

The paint went on very smooth, it dried very smooth. It didn't leave the orange peel effect you usually get from applying bottom paint with a roller. It actually dried in a smooth matte finish. Almost self leveling like some topside paints. Very nice looking.

I have been using Pettit Vivid for years, both black and white. The black of the CPP is not quite as jet black as the vivid and almost looks brown when the sun hits it a certain way. But at half the cost I don't care. The entire painted area is always underwater.

The anti fouling properties remain to be seen. But I live in a brackish low fouling ares so pretty much any paint will keep growth away. I will report back in 6 months when the boat gets hauled again.
