I have two for my daysailer. Perfect. I get water ocassionally from waves over the bow and spray when riding the rail on a tack and these do the trick really well. My boat developed a leak in the cockpit drain so I got a fair amount of water the in the spring and this got the job done in a hurry. On another boat we developed a leak from a crack in the hull from a little dispute the keel had with the boatramp and were getting a fair amount of water inside but this pump kept us dry and afloat. Great product. I own two.

I had one of these. I live in Florida. Left it in my dinghy and went to use it and found that the the entire shaft was bent making it unusable. I returned it, but this time I stored it under my seat out of direct sunlight. Same thing, it bent. Guess it's made from a cheap plastic that does not resist heat. Don't waste your money if you live in a warm climate.

      Comments about Manual Bilge Pumps:

This hand bilge pump works well but is of mediocre quality. I had one warp when it was left in the sun for a few hours, however the store replaced it with no questions. The replacement however no longer has a threaded fitting for the hose. The spiraling on the hose now acts as the thread. If you buy one, be sure to look for the one with the threaded fitting as the replacement isn't anywhere near as secure as the one with the fitting.

On the plus side, it does pump a pretty good amount of water. I bought the midsized pump and the hose is at least twice as long as the short pump. The hose on the short pump is an issue since it is so short. I also have the long pump and it is great for leaning over the side and pumping out a dinghy. Be aware however that the long pump is so long that it is difficult to use at times. As a result of this, I use the medium pump the vast majority of times I need to pump something.

              Comments about Manual Bilge Pumps:

Purchased this to get to the bottom(34") of the engine room sump, the thin tube design with the caged inlet on the bottom and outlet with hose just below the top with the pump handle at the top is ideal to get down past the engine and associated tubing/wiring, to the very bottom of the sump. Worked well and seems to be holding up.
Had tried to use small hand pumps and electric pumps used for changing oil, but had trouble getting the tubes all the way to the sump bottom and most failed after one use... This West Marine product seems to be better, although it was advertised to use to pump out your dingy.

                        Comments about Manual Bilge Pumps:

I own 14' aluminum skiff and wanted a small, easily stowable bilge pump that could fit in the seat compartment. it sucks water well enough but the exit hose is so short that it's almost ridiculous, even in my small boat. If i wanted to pump into a bucket that would be fine but honestly that's adding an unnecessary step. if they made the hose more flexible and longer by a full foot it would still be able to fit neatly in a small compartment and do its job much better

I just purchased this to drain my fish boxes while I procrastinate on replacing the mascerator and pump. They move a lot of water very quickly. The large pump also provides enough hose and pump to be able to do this standing up and not have the hose fall back into the boat. (25' Center Console).
