I have two for my daysailer. Perfect. I get water ocassionally from waves over the bow and spray when riding the rail on a tack and these do the trick really well. My boat developed a leak in the cockpit drain so I got a fair amount of water the in the spring and this got the job done in a hurry. On another boat we developed a leak from a crack in the hull from a little dispute the keel had with the boatramp and were getting a fair amount of water inside but this pump kept us dry and afloat. Great product. I own two.

Pumps well; hose deteriorates quickly

Pumps well but after a year the hose breaks again and again. Have to replace the hose to make it useful unless you want to pump into a bucket and toss it overboard.

Comments about West Marine Hand Bilge Pump, 36" With 72" Hose:

Purchased this pump out of convenience to replace a stolen pump for our dinghy. After only 2 weeks the main pump tube had warped and it became difficult to pump. A couple weeks later, it was almost unusable because it was so hard to pump. We returned it and will be ordering a different pump. It may be suitable for other uses if kept indoors, we used it outdoors and we believe the summer heat caused the issues.

Perfect tool for removing water when you don't have access to or want to bother to use an electric pump. Great tool to remove water from the deep spots in a hot tub, the foot wells on your jet ski, etc.

Comments about West Marine Hand Bilge Pump, 18" With 24" Hose:

With no instructions included, it's difficult to determine which end of the hose to install in the discharge fitting. I tried both ends of the hose and neither was a good fit. Leaked badly and was difficult to use. Not very impressed.

Comments about West Marine Hand Bilge Pump, 24" With 72" Hose:

We bought this product to pump water from small pools at a wildlife rehabilitation center and it gets used every day. During the first week it worked great, but after that the pump started to stick. It appears that the central rod is bending and will not go into the pump smoothly. Very disappointing

Comments about West Marine Hand Bilge Pump, 18" With 24" Hose:

This product got many bad reviews. So many that I almost didn't purchase it. That would have been a mistake. Yes, if you put it together incorrectly the hose will come out and water will go everywhere. That said, make sure you install the rough cut end into the main receiver; not the end with the rubber fitting. It works very well and certainly gets the job done. Thank you West Marine for selling this product.

Got this to get rain out of the dingy and works great. I is also fun to use and really pumps out the water fast. I got the longer hose so I can use it if need in the Big boat, but hope I never have to use it.

Comments about West Marine Hand Bilge Pump, 18" With 24" Hose:

I used this product to empty the bilge on my 17 ft Sunbird in order to remove the pump and switch for testing and repair/replacement.

The other reviews noting the lousy fit / connection of the hose to the pump are spot on. I was able to hold it in place for the short time I used it, but the connection was not good and water was spewing out the fitting all the while. A simple redesign to employ an actual screw in connector would likely fix this issue and make this a great little device. As is, though, it's 2 stars at best.

Needed it today as waves were coming over the transom. The hose just wouldn't stay connected to the housing at all. I will carry a coffee can with me from now on.

Used to pump out a dinghy kept floating at the dock. The hose didn't fit well -- duct tape sort of fixed that, though still leaky. I liked the handle, but kept the pump in a the car through the summer and after a month of blazing (oh, yeah!) New England summer temps the barrel warped, rendering it usless. Remembered why I prefer brand names and local chandleries. Recycled this & bought the Real Deal -- which has worked faultlessly for a year and a half. And will probably continue to do so for many future years.
