    Works for me!

    By Pete s/v MicMac

    Comments about EPDM Mooring Snubbers:

I have used on a 5/8" snubbing line I use on my all chain rode for the past 6 years. We anchor out a lot and it provides extra spring in the snubbing line. Have not yanked out an anchor yet even in 40+ knots of wind. Mine has finally degraded and I will be replacing this season.

    Comments about EPDM Mooring Snubbers:

I am a licensed professional Captain with 45 years boating experience, and an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean. I own nine boats. These are complete and utter junk. If you need this sort of thing, they will fail almost immediately. I had a bad spot to dock, exposed to frequent ferry wake traffic--an exposed slip. I tried these and they did not last one season. My results were the same as the pictures the other reviewer posted. One of four failed withing weeks, the others failed within a few months. I switched to thinner dock lines for the shock loads and larger dock lines for the heavier loads and replaced the thinner lines as needed. These things don't work at all. If you have them and they work, it means you do not need them.

West Marine after several attempts gave me a refund on these. The manufacturer offered to send me replacements and never did. They know these are junk too.

Snubbers and chafing gear are worth the money. Nothing worse than waking up at night hearing one or several of your lines snapping during high winds.

          Comments about EPDM Mooring Snubbers:

The mooring snubber is a great way to protect your boat and maintain the longevity of your dock lines. Your dock line can be easily fed through the snubber, which will then absorb the shock that occurrs when the line is pulled taunt. This way, the diversion of stress to the snubber keeps your line from wearing out over time . It allows the boat to move freely within the dock but pulls it back to the same general position. The mooring snubber is a must have for all boaters, especially those whose boat remains tied up for a long period of time.

              Comments about EPDM Mooring Snubbers:

These snubbers are meant to provide an essential moorage function by absorbing shock loading of dock lines. The West Marine brand snubbers, made by Taylor Made, deteriorate in as little as two years and fail completely in 3-4 years.
I have another snubber (competing brand) that was put into service the same time as the West Marine and it is still in great shape. The West Marine snubber fell off the mooring line this weekend.

              Comments about EPDM Mooring Snubbers:

I used the old version initially and they worked fine until they ripped apart. The good news is that West Marine replaced them every time. Now there is a new updated version that is very tough and is much easier to install. The shock absorbing aspect is very reasureing.

                Comments about EPDM Mooring Snubbers:

I live am a marine contractor, and I live aboard a 30' sailboat. I had wanted to try the 5/8 snubbers, but had been reluctant to because of price, and because I wasn't sure they would do much. I bought one used for [$] at a thrift store today, and it's blowing 40 knotts right now. The snubber is only on the bow line, that used to jerk mercilously. I was going through spring lines in a short time during fall and winter, and losing sleep to the jerking. After applying the 5/8" snubber, the boat's movements are completely tolerable. I think the 3/4" would be too stiff for my boat. This one is just right. I'll buy anoteher at West Marine for the stern line tomorrow.

                  Comments about EPDM Mooring Snubbers:

I ended up not using these because they are heavy and awkward when managing the lines. The 3/4 inch snubbers would need a tremendous amount of pull to get any spring benefit from them, more pull then is occurring even in 30 knot winds with incoming waves at the marina. Might need them to secure for larger storms (i.e. Hurricanes) . Too much, and not needed for most normal docking.
