        Comments about Super Sub Pumps:

I asked at West Marina in Port Charlotte, Florida for a bilge pump, low profile, with a switch so it would NOT run constantly but would switch itself off.
The sales man raved about the Whale Super sub 500 that he pulled off the shelf and handed to me. He said it had a switch and it was just what I was looking for.
Well, I eventually got the boat in the water and hooked up the Whale bilge pump and found out it has no switch. The OTHER model has the switch. By then it was too late to return the item. Yeah, thanks a lot West Marine salesman at store in Port Charlotte. Big waste of my time and money. Once again led astray by lousy sales help at that store. I will try never to shop there again. This is why we have to shop online.

Comments about Whale Pumps Super Sub Pumps:

Have read about these failing after continuous on off running. Mine used to run all the time due to height of outlet and hose backfilling bilge. I installed the recommended anti backflow valve which I believe the larger ones come with now and have had no problems since. Mine is 3 years old and works awesome at keepimg my forward bilge clear.

Comments about Whale Pumps Super Sub Pumps:

            Don't install this pump!
I bought two and installed them both in my trimaran out near Avalon, CA. I installed each pump on a separate battery bank and installed them exactly as directed in the instructions..

Both pumps had one-way valves downline before the thru-hulls. Both pumps failed within two weeks and my engine compartment was flooded.

I get some rain water in and have used other brands with separate float switches without any problems. I switched out to take advantage of the claimed '3/8' inch depth of the pump. It seems like if this is a hair above 3/8 inch the pump will just continue to run until the battery is dead, it cycles on/off about once a minute... West Marine wasn't much help on this one!

I re-installed the old pumps 6 mo ago and haven't had a problem since...

Regularly will run continuously on "auto" mode. After doing an internet search turns out this is a common fault. Not recommended. Will throw mine into the garbage and buy something else.

I have a Tanzer 28, with a very shallow bilge. This is the only pump that does the job, but on top of it, it works better than the other standard pumps you get at many marine chandleries.

Worth ordering and waiting for it.

All seemed great. Looks nice has nice techical features.

BUT the front screen bumps off easily. Imagine a boat that rocks. When that is off the pump cant get the last water and so pumps continuously until impeller burnout. Happened the FIRST time rainwater got in the bilge. LuckY I checked.

This seemingly nice pump failed with massive leakage after a week. It is not sealed, but has an o-ring and tightening collar to seal the motor. This just doesn't work for a submersible bilge pump. Whale manual pumps are great, but stay away from this one!

I put this pump in a very tight space below the cabin, where nothing else would fit. It hooked up easily - as any pump should, and moves enough water to keep me at ease. I haven't had it installed long enough to judge longevity yet, but so far it looks like a good deal.

                                Comments about Super Sub Pumps:

I use this pump to provide continuous circulation for the live bait well that I have rigged up on my paddleboard, that I use for ocean fishing. This pump runs continuously for several hours each outing in very harsh salt water environ, and yet is low-profile enough not to hinder my progress when paddling through kelp and over long distances. It is quiet enough to stalk easily spooked fish, and has kept my live bait lively (including a dozen squid once), helping me to hook some trophy fish. My fishing rig would certainly not be the same without this awesome Whale Super Sub.
